Honeymoon funds?

Riot, on May 25, 2020 at 5:53 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 12
I was thinking of doing a honeymoon registry, but I can't find one that is just general funds. Either that, or in just very uncertain of how they work lol

Any recommendations?

So they are all just general funds. You can set it up so that people think they are paying for an excursion or a meal but it’s just money being deposited into your bank account with a middle man taking a percentage out.

    We used travelers joy.

I think it is better to break it down by activity than just having a general fund. People were more likely to contribute. I know our guests enjoyed buying us “swimming with dolphins” and “excursion to Atlantis” and we were able to think of them when we did those things, and send photos showing them that we did it and thanking them for sponsoring it. That made it way more personal than them just contributing to general “honeymoon”

All we were looking for is honeymoon money also. Did a bunch of reading, and most people recommended not using a service. Apparently some of them take a percentage of the funds collected, so just a heads up if you go that road.

That doesn't work for our situation. We don't know what we'll be able to do because of COVID, which is why we wanted something general.

At the end of the day, it's still just a cash fund. You get the money and say you're putting it toward whatever. Also, as someone else mentioned, all these funds take a percentage to process the funds. People know that cash is a good gift. Honestly, if you have no registry, people will usually default to giving you cash/checks which don't include any hidden fees.

I’m not sure what my friend used, but when she got married 10 years ago or so, they had where you could buy dinner one night, pay for brunch at a different place, gift certificate for airline, etc. I’ll see if I can track her down and if she remembers.

We used the Knot registry, because we could make it generic, or we could make it specific (fancy dinner! theme park tickets!).

But, as everyone said - these are all just cash that goes into your account.

Our wedding website is on Zola, and we were able to set up a general honeymoon fund on there! If you register at Bed Bath and Beyond, they have "honeymoon experiences" that you can register for, which is kinda cute.

Don't use honeyfund as that is one of the sites that takes a percentage of the funds. My friend ran into that when our friend group set up the honeyfund for her and her husband as a surprise and she got less than what we put in.
