Honeymoon Fund Registries

Laramie, on October 28, 2019 at 5:01 PM Posted in Planning 0 8

Hello!

My fiance and I are wanting to do an online registry where people can gift money to us instead of buying us material things. I am wondering what websites/registries there are that you recommend? I have looked at a few, but a lot of them have fees.

You won't find anything without fees, I'll be honest. Nothing I'd trust.

I'd avoid a website all together and inform guests in a tasteful manner that instead of material possessions, you'd appreciate a contribution/donation to help make memories via your honeymoon due to the fact that you have most possessions you might need already.

Being honest - most people are going to gift you money, anyway.

I still made a registry with Target just in-case someone wanted to get me a gift and so I wouldn't have to stare at the item and be like: "who thought I needed this" type deal. It cut out the 'return' factor. I actually got a lot of physical gifts and way more cash/gift cards than I expected to, honestly. I only had to return one item and it was because we didn't have enough water pressure (it was a super nice shower-head we would have never spent the $$ on). Everything on my registry was like - "I want this but would never personally spend money on it". So, it might be good to make a registry like that -- even if it might only have 20 items on it. Mine had 25 items.

If you go with a website, expect the fees. I'd avoid one all together and trust that they'll get the message with a simple: "we have a small registry due to having most possessions we might need, but we would love donations to create memories..." type deal. I dropped hints here and there along the way to, in tasteful manner (as much as you can be when... you're basically asking for it???) when my family asked about what was on the registry and I'd usually say: "I have a few things, but since I moved out 'x' years ago I have everything I need already. I put gift cards on the list, since I'm going 'x' for my Honeymoon and that might be a better option." It was worded way differently, but... that was the jist.

They all have fees otherwise it wouldn't be a profitable business. The best way to let your guests know you prefer cash is to not have a registry. When your guest ask if you are registered just say you are saving up for a house, car, honeymoon, etc. They know cash is a good gift.

We are using Wanderable. It was very easy to set up! They take a small cut of each gift (I think about 2.5% -- so for a $50 gift, you will still receive $48.75 of it), and you can transfer funds directly to your bank account. We set ours up with various experiences we will have on our honeymoon, and it also comes with a general fund.

We used The Knot. There is no fee for you and it is sent directly to your bank account.

We used the Knot, as well. Completely safe, and minimal fees.
