Honeymoon...Drive or Fly??

Alex, on November 13, 2014 at 11:04 AM Posted in Honeymoon 0 7

We're going to Disney World for our honeymoon, and it's going to be about an 11-12 hour drive to get there. We had talked about flying, but I want to drive so we'll have the extra room for souvenirs (and driving is cheaper than flying). Would it be better to save time and fly and just pay to check an extra bag if we have a lot of souvenirs, or would it be best to save money on plane tickets and drive instead?

If you're staying on disney property, I would go with flying. I, personally, cannot stand driving anywhere for more than 4 hours, but if you have to fly down and rent a car (as in you're going to go to things other than disney property), it might be worth it just to drive.

Depends how long you're going for, if it's a few days you would lose a lot of time traveling. If you're staying longer then driving would make sense so you can bring more stuff if needed.

Agree with Janeen. Disney makes it easy if you are staying on property--ride from the airport, then use Disney transportation to the parks, then they provide transportation back to the airport. (Disney's Magical Express)

You've got plenty of time to watch flights--nothing is going to be released for your dates for a while.

Also, if you have flexibility--esp if you fly on Southwest--adjusting your travel days to their cheaper days (usually Tues, Wed, Saturday) saves some money. Sign up for the email notices for whatever airlines service your area, so you get notices of sales.

I would probably fly. But it depends on you and your fh. Will the two of you enjoy the road trip, it could be fun? Also if I was driving I would probably rent a car, to avoid putting the miles on my own car and maybe get something more fuel efficient. That is what I usually do for longer road trips.

How much vaca do you have? Can you take off the extra days to incorporate driving or is that going to cut into how long you are at Disney? If you fly southwest they allow 2 bags per person plus your carry on. I can't image that you couldn't get what you needed there and back in 6 bags. If you haven't already I would go to one of the websites that you put in your car and destination and it tells you for gas, but then incorporate food, etc verse flying. Usually for two people and a long trip it's not that far off from each other where flying it just easier. Plus if you are staying at Disney they have packages that flights can be included. I would reach out to a couple travel agents and see what they can offer you!

I'm going to Disney World in January for 10 days. Hands down fly if your staying on Property. You won't need a car. Also when you stay on property anything you buy you can be delivered to your room. I also like how hotel guests get special time in the parks by themselves.

How much is the cost to drive? 12 hours for two does not seem like much of a savings. If it was 4 people I could see it but not 2?

Even though Disney does make it easy to fly, we are driving. We like te road trip and hands down it is cheaper to drive then fly. We are the same distance as you and we have been doing it for years. We are Disney freaks lol, but driving does save money if it isn't that important to you how much money then I say fly.
