Honeymoon Dilemma

Delaney, on May 6, 2020 at 9:50 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 7
So we are getting married next September and me and FH have been discussing the honeymoon. I want to go on one, but my issue is that I am graduating nursing school and will be in a nurse residency program and I am not sure if I will be able to take off a week and a half for the wedding and honeymoon combined. Im thinking maybe we should just wait and go on an even bigger vacation than the Bahamas like originally planned for our 1 year anniversary or maybe we should just do it later and not right after out wedding? Does anybody have any suggestions or experiences with this issue? Thanks in advance!

We were waiting til this summer to have our honeymoon (7 months) so we’d have time off, but now we’ve had to cancel altogether. Hopefully we can go somewhere when all this mess is over.

We’re taking a mini-moon, just 2 nights in October directly after the wedding, but I’m hoping we can plan something bigger before kids come along. I’m a teacher so taking off that much in October is a no-go for me, so hopefully the following summer or do a week long camping trip over spring break. It’s definitely nothing wrong with planning a honeymoon later.

We only took a day or two off after our wedding, and then went on our honeymoon 5 months later. It worked out better for our jobs, finances, and where we wanted to go.

Do whatever you need to do!

We were planning a mini-moon for the weekend because my FH was supposed to start a new job and wouldn’t have enough time off to take a proper honeymoon until 2022. So what we were going to do is go to a neighboring state for the weekend and just spend some time relaxing together, then take the real honeymoon the summer of 2022 when he can get more time off.

Have you talked with one of your educators? I mean physicians and nurses a like tend to get married in programs all the time and I'm pretty sure they are allowed to take a certain amount of time off. I would reach out to them too!

Lots of people take a delayed honeymoon so they can save up, not use all their vacation time etc. I would see what the priorities are for a honeymoon (either going right away, going for a long time, going somewhere luxurious) and then see how you and your partner can make those work with your schedules. We delayed our honeymoon so we could take a longer and more luxurious vacation (which we ended up cancelling lol). We also went on a mini moon right after the wedding which was great for some alone time after all the family time.

You could always just book a nice hotel room for a couple of nights somewhere nearby or even in your own town! Because we had to postpone our wedding, we are going on our honeymoon before we are married, but we'll stay in a nice hotel for our wedding weekend and have some fun.
