Honest opinions on my wedding dress idea please...

Kirsty, on September 27, 2019 at 9:31 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 16

Hi I'm new here and this is my very first post so please be kind :-)

I've spent hours (possibly days) searching for the perfect dress. I have strong thoughts on what I want but I'm having trouble finding it.

I really want a knee length 50s style dress with a big puffy skirt and a fitted top half with either short or 3/4 length sleeves. And I only have a budget of about £100!!! Impossible right?

Well whilst searching, an idea dawned on me but I really need other opinions and I cant ask h2b for obvious reasons. I'm not sure if it's a great idea and I'll look fabulous or all this wedding searching has sent me crazy and I'll look ridiculous if I go through with it.

Anyway, I've found a white puffy tulle skirt on Amazon for £20. Its knee length and puffy and gets good reviews. I then searched and found a white corset style top with short chiffon sleeves for £12.

Does anyone think this will work? I'm really worried I'll look like I'm going to a costume party and it's really important I look like a bride.

Thoughts please?

Can you screen shot the pictures? I'll give my honest opinion, for what it's worthSmiley smile

As long as you love it, and feel like a bride in it, that's truly all that matters!

I love unique brides! Show me please! ❤

It sounds like it could but you could also find a used A-line or ballgown dress you could just turn into a tea length. I got mine for less than $200 at a bridal store then shortened it.

Thank you so much for your suggestions.

I have looked through these sites before but I'm worried about ordering from them as the reviews are really bad on trustpilot xx

Oh...ok. I have ordered from them without any complaints. My friend used to order from them all the time. That is odd.

Uniquevintage.com is another option, though I have not ordered from them.

I had the store seamstress shorten it. I’m not sure the cost of just that part because the stress was strapless and I also had her make a top/sleeves with the extra fabric.

Sometimes there are some dresses at David’s Bridal for $99.

Here's the before/after pics. The dress was originally $650 I think and because it was discontinued I bought it for less than $200.

Thank you! I LOVED the soft polka dot fabric. You can probably turn any A-line or ballgown dress into a tea length. A seamstress might charge $100-$200. You can alter sleeves too but that can get costly. I still think it’s worth looking at sale dresses at David’s or call bridal shops.
