Holiday Cards with Save the Date?

Cristina, on November 16, 2020 at 11:58 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 5
Hi Everyone! My fiancé and I are buying a home and trying to (re)plan our 2x postponed wedding at the same time. I’m thinking of sending holiday cards to friends and family this year, but also trying to save money on new save the dates.. (For some background, we were originally supposed to get married in May 2020, then postponed to Sept 2020 and now May 2021..)

Is it tacky if our new address announcement AND a reminder to save our new wedding date are printed on the back of our holiday card?? Lol 😂🙃🤷🏻‍♀️ (Such as having a double sided card with a “PS- we moved!” Or “Reminder to Save our New Date” kind of thing)

It's not tacky by any means but people will likely forget unless it's a magnet that is "in your face" with information. From holiday/Christmas cards I have received in years past, I have never looked at the back for any reason so it could easily be overlooked and missed entirely by your friends/family.

Can you combine the info of the new address and save the date on a magnet from Vistaprint? They have sales frequently. Attach it to your card with a dot of rubber cement.

This is exactly what we did! We wrote our Year at a glance message on the back and said something about how we were excited for seeing everyone at wedding 2.0 in August. We've already told everyone the date via email when we postponed so it's more of a reminder. But I'm with you, we were NOT going to spend more money on STDs!

Thanks, that’s a good point. We had already spent money on our original save the dates so we were hoping to save a little on the new ones lol. But that’s something we’ll have to consider

Yes exactly! Lol Glad we’re not the only ones thinking of this! And same, we had already notified people of our new date back when we postponed, so this is more of a reminder

In traditional etiquette, Save the dates are an informal communication ( no matter how formal the wedding itself may be) and can be done by phone, mail, email, or included in another communication like a greeting card or letter. Personally I hate save the date magnets, since I have no metallic surfaces to stick them to, and they are dangerous to have lying around with kids or dogs. A lot of people include inexpensive change of address cards, wedding announcements cards, and advance information on weddings ( Saves) in holiday cards or letters. Usually printed on cheap, just larger than business card stock. Fine to scan into a computer or hand held device, add to a calendar or rolodex, or tack up where you can see it.
We frequently also get news/ reminders who is getting a degree in Kan, End of April or May, and due dates of babies due in the next 4-5 months. Lots of people only pay postage and write everyone 1-3 times a year, and make the most of it.
