Hog roast

amanda, on January 1, 2018 at 9:49 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 14

So, we are having our wedding and reception at my family's farm. It has a lot of meaning to me and it is going to cut down on costs a lot! (I think) we are wanting to do a hog roast with sides without hiring out. however, the more I read about it the more it sounds like I will have a lot of family and friends working instead of having fun. are there any suggestions besides, hire out? I am starting to think that is our only option

    I definitely recommend hiring professionals.
If pork is not cooked properly people could get very sick.

Hiring out is absolutely your best option. Good on your for recognizing that to do otherwise would force your family and friends to work. Caterers will safely prepare the food and handle set up and clean up so you don't have to.

Do you have a few extra million dollars lying around to pay for any hospital bills of your guests get sick? No? Then the cheaper option would be to go with a professional caterer that has liability insurance to cover any bad things that could happen.

It also feels like your friends and family would be stuck working because they in fact would be stuck working.

I would hire pros- aside from just not wanting your family and friends to work (ehich the shouldn't!), you also dont want to have to worry about liability and food safety.
Also, I would recommend pricing out how much all of your rentals will be, as very often "backyard" weddings are more expensive. At the bare minimum, you need a seat for every bottom for the ceremony and reception (or someone to move chairs if you're reusing them so your guests dont have to), tents (and a backup plan for inclement weather!), a dance floor if you want dancing, and a bathroom trailer. You also need to consider where guests would be parking and how far the distance from where they're parking to the wedding soace would be- you may need some kind of shuttle service.
Tl;dr: Hire pros for everything and look at prices for all of your rentals vs. a more traditional venue. (You can always do engagement pics at the farm if you want to include it!)

Hire out. This is to ensure your guests don't have to work at your wedding as well as relieve you of the liability.

Definitely hire a professional, licensed and insured caterer. Don't put your guests at risk, or to work.

There's really no in-between option for having your friends and family work on your wedding day and have to miss stuff and hiring professionals.

I'd hire professionals so your friends and family can participate in your celebration and so you won't have to worry about liability.

I agree with everybody in hiring a catering company for the pig and I had actually found a few Awesome options for hog roast caterers! I didn’t know they were such a popular food choice at weddings! I didn’t think of the food poisoning aspect of it due to the fact that we do hog roasts all
summer long with family and friends and have never had that issue. But stuff happens and I’d rather be safe than sorry, especially in today’s word! I know my personal family and friends would never go after me with a medical law suit due to food poisoning, but you never know about guests that are brought that I don’t know personally! Thanks all.

Yes, hire out. Why would you want your family and friends to be working on your wedding day? Why would you, as the bride, want to have to worry about food and serving on your day? Having your wedding on the family farm already is a great way of cutting costs - don't skimp where it really matters.
