HMR: We Cancelled Our Honeymoon

The New Mrs. Flannery, on June 9, 2011 at 8:31 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 11

Everything to this point has gone so well and now we had something come up with our rental property that is consuming a chunk of change, so we had to cancel our honeymoon. I feel so bummed. I really wanted this time away with my new husband. Smiley sad Any other ladies have a similar situations with cancelling your HM?

We cannot even have a honeymoon until next year. We have two kids and even though I wish we could put them off until the wedding, we have bills. Plus the wedding costs, we are just waiting until income tax time and finding deals on a cruise. I am sure you will get a honeymoon, just plan it for another time when finances are there :-)

My wedding is next year at the end. So around income tax we will be putting our deposit down the our cruise we wanna take for our honeymoon. and just put the money aside for the rest of the cruise until then. I don't wanna wait until around the wedding and then don't have the money to go on the honeymoon.

FH says we are using the wedding money for our honeymoon.....we are an established couple so we wont be getting gifts. but - the $ we do get - i'd rather spend on the new furniture, tv and flooring i want in our kitchen. I'd rather do a 3 day away and a week honeymoon away next year for our 1 year anniv. I don't know - i may win this battle - but we shall see. i mean he does kinda want a new tv, flat screen big....mounted on the wall...etc. hmm....like i said, we'll see.

Instead of registering for gifts, do a honeymoon registry. You should be able to get enough "gifts" combined with the the little bit of money that you do have to be able to do a little something.

We did the same thing. I had everything set with the travel agent and was so close to booking it. I think we're just going to wait until after the wedding and assess our money situation and go from there. It'll still be nice in Chicago after we get married for a bit, so I figured that we'd plan a little getaway sometime in late fall or winter.

I'm bummed too, but I'd rather be comfortable with money, then be broke and scraping to get by.

Jillian- I completely agree. We had this booked for about 3 months, so it really added to the let down. I have the week off after our wedding, so now am debating on whether or not I should just work and save that time for later in the year.

Our original honeymoon plans was a week in Florida. Well, job stuff made us change our plans because I won't have the time to do what we wanted (which was drive down there and stay a week) so we are going to do a small trip to Chicago since it's the closest (as far as a drive) to go and enjoy ourselves for a few days and a lot cheaper. I noticed you are from Chicago maybe you can do it the other way around and visit St. Louis. It's only a 5 hr drive and if you use hotwire, you may be able to take a nice small trip.

We are not going to have a honeymoon, but my boys will be going to Florida for the summer, so that is a small honeymoon in a way. Smiley smile

Sorry that happened! We were going to wait to have our actual honeymoon until our anniversary or whenever we felt it would be best for us to go, we didn't want to spend all that money on the wedding and the honeymoon right together.then we discussed doing a minimoon to Chicago..but we just talked and thought we'd rather go when it's warm to walk around and things than in November and also I'm not sure I'll have a job in December (i'm in grad school and only teaching in the fall)..so we thought the best for us would be just to stay in our city and use some of that money to do fun stuff/go out to eat that we otherwise wouldn't have..and also have that money to do fun stuff for a longer period, like stretch it out..if i'm making sense..but a lot of ladies on the boards here are postponing honeymoons! I understand that doesn't make it less disappointing though, especially after you planned it.
