HitchSwitch anyone?

Vanessa, on January 21, 2016 at 11:08 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 14

I'm thinking of doing HitchSwitch to make my life easier because I have soooo many things I need to change regarding my last name. Anyone using it or already used it? Love it or a rip off? Thanks Smiley smile

Don't. It's really not that bad to change your name, and do you really want to be giving all your information to some random website? No thank you.

I'm using it. I don't feel like going threw websites and figuring it out. I like things simple. I'll pay money to have someone send everything and having it addressed and where to sign. With all the wedding planning I'd like something simple lol

The process is pretty simple. I don't understand why you would use a service. They can not do anything that you couldn't do for free on your own. It isn't like they can stand in-line for you at the DMV. Seriously that was the worst part, waiting in line. If you prefer to not wait you can do your change via mail on your own, you don't need a service to print the forms for you.

There's nothing to figure out. You go to SSA, you go to the DMV. Those sites don't do it for you. You still have to go, but you paid someone to write your info in the forms.

I'm not changing my last name, however, I received an email from HitchSwitch yesterday and I was being curious so I went to their site. I read all the details and it seems that women don't need this service. You can do it all on your own. I didn't see one good reason to pay for this service.

Do it yourself. It's not hard, it's free, and you really don't have to do everything at one time. As Stephanie said, you go to SSA (and my experience with them has always been very pleasant and efficient) you go to DMV and then change everything else.

I have a pretty succinct list of what you need to do if anyone wants to PM me.

When you change things? Don't forget professional licenses, subscriptions, investments, doctor and dentist records, subscriptions, and auto-pay things that happen every month.

I used HitchSwitch. For clarification, you don't give that much information to the website- they tell you what to fill out where, but they don't have your SSN or anything, and it was super easy to use.

It made me feel much better, but honestly I agree with everyone else. The process was pretty easy and i could have gotten the forms online. All i got out of the service was peace of mind that I had the right info, and a little help with what name went where (I wasn't always sure when the form wanted my new name and when they wanted my maiden name).

Those of you that have changed your name how soon did you get your SS card after? My drivers license expires in early Sept and I'm changing my name in late August. Debating whether I have enough time to just wait

I got it as a gift. Total waste of money. They just give you the blank pages and fill in your name basically. I know people say "do you want them to have your info?" They literally have no info, you don't give them your social or anything. The hard/annoying part is standing in line at SSA and DMV, which you have to do no matter what. This is such a dumb service and a complete waste of money. Not helpful at all. All you have to do is google SSA name change form, etc just like you did to find HitchSwitch and you've got all your forms that take 2 seconds to fill out. That's literally all it does. It doesn't help you change your name with banks, or credit cards or anything like that. Don't do it.

I changed mine myself. Well, partially anyway. I haven't gone to the dmv yet. A good one to remember to change is your car info. The title and all that jazz.

I dont understand the people that say "i dont know how to do this stuff" or, "i like things simple". Changing your last name is very simple. like everyone is saying - go to social security, you wait, the process there takes 15 minutes, all you have to do is fill out a form, they input it into the computer, you check to make sure all info is right. you either wait for your new SS card in the mail, or take the receipt to the DMV. you get a new license. From there, you just go on each website for your bills and change as needed. why pay someone, who will then have your social security number...doesn't make sense.
