Hiring security?

Gen, on February 7, 2019 at 12:17 PM Posted in Planning 0 13
Has anyone hired security for their wedding (specifically to keep out certain abusive people who have threatened to show up drunk and crash the wedding)? I feel like we have to have security just for the peace of mind at this point.

How have any of you gone about hiring security? I’ve heard that off-duty police officers will do private event security sometimes, but do you hire them through the police station or is there some other way to find someone to hire? How soon before the ceremony did/would you have them arrive? How long did/would you have them stay? How much did it cost?

Your venue should be able to offer some recommendations. Sorry that you have to deal with that, but it sounds like a good idea in your case.

Our venue requires, and had them one site. It wasn't an option not to have him. Which I'm thankful to have had him, even though we never needed him.

But I think you can ask you venue or call the local cops and see if they have anyone they can recommend.

You hire them through a security company, and they contract out. My fiance's sister is a 10+ year alcoholic, and when she drinks she gets loud & mean & violent. I hired two police officers (off duty) through a private security company. They will just be in suits, hanging out like they are venue employees. Most likely, they won't have to do anything. But if they have to, they will be there to handle it so guests aren't. They will be there from 4 PM - 11 PM (our wedding starts at 5 PM).

Oh jeez, I am sorry you are dealing with that too! Do you mind if I ask how much you’re paying for them to be there the whole time?

My venue offered it to us for unwanted guests but I think we will be ok without it. I'm sure you hire them through whatever security company they work for not the police dept.

I haven't got a quote back yet, but they said they charge between $20-$30 an hour per person.

I just Googled private security in our area. Ours will be unarmed, so that made it cheaper.

Your venue might have security already! From what I’ve seen in my area you are required to have security if you have alcohol served. We are hiring an off duty police officer through the city of our wedding and they charge $55: hour I don’t know if they will do additional things like keep certain people out, but you can always call your local department and ask!

I didn't think we were going to need security.

But lately, FHs crazy ex-wife has been contacting him, talking about how she knows he still loves her, and it's crazy that he's marrying me. Note that they were married right out of high school, married only about 5 years, and have been divorced for like 25 years now. We've had to block her on all social media, and block her phone number so she can't call him (she got his number from a former mutual friend).

So, now I'm rethinking security at the wedding. It's not likely she'll show up there, but I want to be prepared just in case. I don't want to have to worry about it.

I'm considering it myself. My fiancee's horrible ex wife keeps trying to invite herself to the wedding. Either I throat punch her and get blood on my dress, or I have something there. I also have a close family member who is a raging drunk, but sober he's a sweet as pie. If he gets blitzed he has to go and he's a concealed carry holder

LMAO!! I'm so relieved to know I'm not the only one dealing with a crazy ex!! I swear FH and I have been dating almost 3 years, living together for 2, and she just started this about a month ago. She hasn't tried to invite herself to the wedding yet, but I feel like that's next. At this point, she's mostly trying to talk FH out of marrying me and coming back to her (never going to happen).

Thankfully, she doesn't live in the same state we do, but she does still have family here, and according to FH, she usually visits California once or twice a year. So, it's possible she could just show up, if she knew when and where.

We've also had to block others on social media that still talk to her, because we don't want her getting any more of FHs information.

So, I'm now dedicating a portion of my budget to security, because I don't want to get blood on my beautiful dress, or break a nail!!
