Hiring Police Officer for event?

Cheyenne, on August 15, 2017 at 11:07 AM Posted in Planning 0 17

I found a nice venue, however it requires we hire a police officer for the event since we have 200+ guests. Has anyone ever done this before? How do I go about doing this? And what is the estimated price?

My venue requires a security guard but the venue coordinates it for us and we pay prior to the wedding. ETA I forgot the price o believe like $25/he.

We have to have 2 security at my venue at $30/hr. The venue set it up so we don't have to do or contact anyone, just paying officers day of.

Like Heather, I've never heard of this. No weddings I have gone to have ever had security or required them. Is security the same as hiring police?

I would contact your local police precint. I work at a high school and we are required to have security at all school dances and at sports events. Typically its off-duty officers or retired officers who are earning some extra $$. If you call your local precint they should be able to point you in the right direction!

My venue requires hiring off duty officers for any events that serve alcohol. They have 2 officers they work with, so we just hire them through the venue. I believe we are paying $30-35/hr.

Our venue hires an off-duty police officer and we're paying at the end of the night $45/hr. This is required since we're serving alcohol.

Here in TX it's required if you serve alcohol but most venues set it up. See if your venue recommends steps, or call the local PD.

Our venue required security and I think it was $750 for the whole night (we had 3 security guards from 4pm-midnight), but they handled hiring them. I would ask your venue contact, as they must have dealt with that question before.

I don't have this with the venue I ultimately chose, but it would've been strongly recommended at another location. The parking garage was across the street from the venue, but the street is one of the main busy streets of the city so crossing would've been difficult. An officer wasn't required, but recommended to stop traffic so he could escort guests across the street.

My venue requires us to have security if we serve alcohol (which of course we are). They have a company they work with though so it is an extra cost for us not someone we have to find.

If the venue requires it, they must be familiar with doing it. Ask them how to set it up; maybe they even handle it themselves.

My venue charged a flat fee for security and they set it all up. We just paid the amount on the invoice.

TXBride is right about Texas. A TABC licensed bartender and 1 security guard for every 50 people when alcohol is served . My security is off duty officers and runs $40-$45 an hour and I book them, but the couple pays for it.

We have a licensed bartender so we didn't need the officer.

Hi, I know this is an old thread, but I haven't seen this topic elsewhere.

I am looking at a venue that requires we hire 1 off duty cop for the whole evening at our expense, since we will be serving alcohol. My FH is concerned that his presence, patrolling the wedding, is going to make guests feel uncomfortable. Mind you, we're not a rowdy group, but we will be serving alcohol and having a good old time lol. Has anyone ever found the officer at their wedding to be intrusive or overbearing? I told my FH that he will likely just hang out outside (it's a small lodge) and just make sure no one super inebriated gets in a car and drives home. Anyone? I really love this venue, but that is his one hang up with it. Smiley sad

Out of curiosity, what is the difference/advantage between needing an off duty cop and simply hiring a security company?
