Hiring multiple sylists for my wedding

ceceperks, on November 2, 2015 at 1:39 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 7

So I've found a stylist who fits what I am looking for, for my bridal look. She does great work but is a bit pricey. My bridal party all has tight budgets, so I want to give them an affordable option. Additionally, we have a group of about 9 that will be getting hair and make-up. I was just in my friend's wedding and she only had one MU and one hair stylist and it seemed that they were rushing to get done in time.

Is there anything wrong with hiring another stylist to take care of bridal party that is more affordable for them?

You should probably ask your party if they all want professional grade hair and make up, especially if they are on a tight budget. The cheapest I've seen for hair alone on a BM was $65

Most MUA/stylists will ask how many people are getting their services and come with assistants. Make it an option for the bridesmaids, and not a requirement, tell them ahead of time how much it costs, and then they can decide if they want to pay it or not. Some MUA/stylists will not work with other MUA/stylists, and I think most have a minimum number required. Most stylists will not travel to only do 1 person.

Professional hair and makeup is in no way cheap. Even if you find someone more affordable, it will still be pricey.

I am hiring two because of my schedule. The bridal party will be getting makeup done by one mua at the hotel starting around 9am. During that time I will be getting my hair prepped curled and pin curled. We arrive at the venue at 1pm. My makeup artist is meeting me at the venue at 1:30 to do my makeup. The bridesmaids makeup will already be done and they are doing their own hair. After my makeup is done the only thing I will need to do is take my pin curls out since I am wearing my hair down. My makeup artist is more expensive than there's but I still wanted to offer someone affordable that does nice work if they wanted it. Also, they are just getting eyes, brows, and lashes done. For each of my bridesmaids weddings we have done this and it has seemed to work. So instead of $65 per girl its more like $30 then we do our own foundation. I'm thinking of gifting everyone a MAC lipstick as well.

@Beautyofdreams, that is exactly my plan. Did your stylist have an issue with this at all? I don't want to offend anyone. And if I am going to be spending as much as I am on a stylist, I think it is not too much to ask that they are there to make sure my look is flawless.

As an aside, everyone has agreed to get hair and make-up done, my stylist is just crazy expensive and I personally would not spend that much if I was a bridesmaid. (PS I was MOH in 2 of my maid's weddings and they required hair and makeup)

When I've been a bridesmaid there have a been a ton of stylists there on the day of, like over 6 different people. However they have all been from the same company. I'm wondering if there would be an issue with using different businesses at the same time. Can you ask your MUA/Hair person if she has assistants or recommendations for good professionals to take care of the rest of your group at a lower rate?

Bridesmaids are usually charged less than the bride, so I would ask your stylist about her rates for the rest of the wedding party, or if she can recommend someone at a lower rate for them. Some of my vendor's contracts stated that they were to be the only hired professional for that specialty, so she might have a problem working alongside someone who is not her direct colleague. I think your best bet is to talk with her.

You need to find out if there is a minimum requirement for traveling services. The last wedding I was in had a 5 person minimum, including the bride if you wanted them to come to you. You also need to find out if there is an exclusivity clause in the contract. If your stylist requires that she is the only stylist to be hired, but there is no person minimum you could totally get away with having another stylist at a different location where all of your BMs will be getting ready.
