Even some of my guests were amazed...especially some of my friends who were recently married.

My photographers ALSO mentioned that they'd love working with them again as they were not only professional but they were conscious of where they were for their shots. I heard horror stories of videographers and photographers not getting along well b/c videographers would step into shots a photographer would be taking.

I think students are more aware and want to make not only a great product for the bride as well as their portfolio but a great impression in general on the bride and her guests as they are probably depending on word of mouth right now to get their business up and going in an already difficult industry to get your foot in the door.

So JabezPhotography...to correct you on your assumptions...I understand that you're trying to make a point to hire a professional, b/c obviously that is what you are...but you at one point were also a student and also starting off with not much (cont)

I was having the same issue, but I lucked out in a bridal fair and got 50% off videography which made it affordable for us. If you have bridal fairs coming up in your town I suggest you check them out, you might get a good deal. Otherwise a student videographer is better than no video or family doing it for you. Just make sure they've had experience with weddings before and ask to see their previous work. Make sure you get a contract so you are protected if anything happens. Students don't have an established business to protect so it's riskier than hiring a pro. Goodluck!

Under your belt. To judge and say a student won't do a good job...or that having 5 people at your wedding is bad and can be done with only 2 professionals...well I say poo on your assumption...I'm glad we had 5 people...b/c let's face it...if you have 2 cameras versus 4 cameras AND a sound guy...you're clearly going to get much more footage...no matter what...and I'm pretty sure you can't say any differently on that one.

I know my videographers are going to make it big here where I live...I love them...and I already know 5 new brides that are also friends of mine who are or have hired them for their wedding. I'm glad I saw amazing work in these guys and trusted them as well as knew they'd do an AMAZING job!

We are on a budget and looked on Craigslist. Not sure of they are students, but we met one of them and he seemed like a student. Their montage videos are posted on Vimeo. We liked what we saw and the pricing was good. $750 for bride/groom prep, ceremony, and reception 3 cameras two person. It beats asking a family or friend to record for us, especially as none of the people we know would even want to.

I don't think there is anything wrong with hiring a student. I completely agree with Cydney J (M) they want to produce a great video for you so you will be a great reference for them.

My mom was married in 07 and they had a camera placed in the back just to film the ceremony, they said that is what they really wanted, just a record and they were perfectly happy with it and when they watched it for their anniversary, they cried and were so thrilled.

I bought a flip cam off a daily deal site and asked a friend (a very TALL friend) to record the ceremony. FH's young cousins are 8 and 6 and love making videos - so we asked them to film our wedding too. We'll likely have one other person filming on a flip and I plan to create the video using the three. I love this kind of stuff though, so I am not afraid of the work. I'll also have a super fun version from the boys from their perspective and I am so excited. Smiley smile

I do not see any problem with hiring students. Most of them are working full time to pay for education and before the graduation already have sufficient experience and great portfolio. If you like his/ her photos and if you see a photographer understands what you need and what you'd like, why not. In the upshot you won't know if students purchase a thesis and degree but you can make assumptions based on your tastes and photographer's portfolio.

Hi! I was wondering if you’re in CA. I love the idea of using a student or students because I feel like students can be just as talented as professionals and booking jobs is most likely the only thing standing in their way of being a “professional” if you’re in northern CA and have their info I would love to check it out! 😊
