Hiring a separate hair and makeup artist??

Caitlin , on July 20, 2017 at 9:56 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 10

I always thought it would be better to hire a makeup artist and hair stylist from the same company but I'm having a hard time finding a company that I like who are good at both. Anyone have advice on who hired two separate artists to do their hair and makeup?

I hired a MUA to do my makeup only, because it's airbrushed.

My bridesmaids are have a lady do their hair AND makeup because she can do both. This lady, will be doing my hair as well.

I found the airbrush makeup artist on Facebook. The lady who is doing the hair and makeup for my bridesmaids, I found her on Thumbtack.com.

    Good luck!

The woman who has done my hair for the last 8 years is doing it for the wedding. She does not do airbrush though so I had to find someone else to be MUA.

My MUA was an independent artist, not affiliated with a salon. He was amazing and I trusted his judgement and asked if he could help find a trusted hair stylist. (His husband is an Emmy award winning hairstylist, but he doesn't do weddings) He chose a friend from a local salon. After deciding I really liked them both, I asked them to each hire an assistant for my wedding day and I did a trial with both of them as well to ensure that my maids would look top notch too.

Ask you MUA if they know hair people they like or have worked with before....chances are they do.

I have two separate people. You need to go with what is best for you. The hair stylist doesn't do makeup and my makeup artist doesn't do hair. While I originally wanted someone who could do both, I think it's easier to have two separate people. There are four of us getting our hair and makeup done for an 11:30 am ceremony so I think having two people will make the process go quicker.

Hmmm I also looked for airbrush makeup - fortunately my MUA had a list of preferred hair stylists she partners with and I was pretty laid-back about it. I know when I called the hair place I wanted they wouldn't do hair without me using one of their MUAs. Darn. It worked out though as I loved the girl who is doing my hair (she will actually also be my regular stylist going forward).

My hair and makeup people are from the same company, which is owned by my MUA. She will have an assistant that day to help with hair and makeup and they're doing airbrush on all of us.
