Hire Wait Staff

Hi, I want to self cater my wedding, but I don't want my family members to have to serve. What are some ideas for a wait staff? I was thinking I could advertise at a culinary school, but I want someone else's opinion.

I am looking for the same thing. I just need 4 to 6 people to help serve the food. Food and everything is already taking care of. If you find anyone or any company that will let you hire just waiting staff, please let me know.

I’m in the same position! I’m looking for ideas on someone who can just serve the food! I’m having a buffet style dinner!

Go on thumbtack.com and hire waiters from a party staffing agency.

The comments on here are so unhelpful and condescending. OP is asking for alternatives, not for you to lecture her.

OP, I’m in the same position as you and after talking to my venue, they said all I would need to have are my own waiters. My venue provides bartender but not alcohol so I’ll have to bring those as well. I’m still looking into it but I’ll keep you updated on what I’m able to do. But I would first talk to your venue.

Hope you're wedding went well. Just want to say that your commenters are clearly very narrow-minded and don't come from immigrant families so I hope you ignored them. They were giving opinions on what they don't understand. I am Nigerian and we self-cater all the time. Actually, I can only count on one hand how many Nigerian weddings I have been to that did NOT self-cater. It is our norm, not the exception.

That was completely unhelpful 🙄. They asked about waitstaff and you just trashed their idea.

I came on this site because I was searching for ideas very similar to the original question so that I can self-cater my wedding and hire servers. I agree that all the comments here are very mean. Culturally, full catering is very "first world" and I understand completely where Victoria is coming from in her thought process. Anyone who has ever had a large family cookout knows this is doable. It is 5 years later, so I'm wondering how it worked out and if Victoria has any advice for me, and how she got past all this negativity. Also, I guarantee the food at her wedding tasted far better than something a basic caterer would have put together at a fraction of the price.

Hello Nkiru, I still get notifications for my post, but I have chosen not to respond, especially when it was during the time of me planning my wedding. As you can see, most of the comments during that time were put downs, so I found no solutions here. I ended up getting married in Jamaica, so we had all the foods I wanted at the venue we chose.

I can't believe the way these people treated you. I can't believe I actually read all of this, but I did and I just have to share...I helped a friend of mine do her wedding once. Here's what went down. We frequently ate out in our town being young and all. At one time, we even worked in local restaurants. We asked six different restaurants to provide something for the wedding and asked if they had staff that would be willing to work for cash under the table, food, drinks, and a huge tip. Not one of them said no. They knew there would be no "insurance coverage" when they accepted a cash job. Those restauranteurs worked a twelve hour day on their day off. Most importantly, we got the service we wanted as if we were at a restaurant. I don't care how stupid drunk they all got when the reception ended. I'd buy them cases of beer and wine again. Her mother and her aunt did all of the food. Her brother and sister acted as the "go to" on wedding day. I did the flowers before the wedding. It's not that hard folks and stop being d**** because everyone is just trying to make a living--even huge catering/event companies. Glad to hear yours turned out well!
