High Maintenance?

Allaura, on April 26, 2022 at 2:17 PM Posted in Community Conversations 1 14
Okay so what is a question that you have asked a planner, venue coordinator, or really anyone that out of context would make you seem very high Maintenance? Lol

I’ll go first. I just asked my venue to research getting a specific bottle of champagne for our champagne toast! 🙄🙃 from a different state lol

It's not high-maintenance to swap out parts of your bar menu. I brought in (& paid for) my own cases of Grand Cru champagne because the included LaMarca Prosecco (still good) wasn't what I envisioned. We also brought in our choice of gin for martinis. With corking fee, most venues may allow bringing select bottles.

My planner had a part in his contract that said late night phonecalls and texts will not be immediately returned. I guess there are high-maintenance couples out there.

We have to order our alcohol through the venue. So if my venue can’t get it we can’t have it. 🤷🏽‍♀️

Lol this thread is gonna be fun.

I told our DJ that FH and I absolutely had to be the first dance of the night because we went to a wedding where an aunt and uncle gave the couple a "gift" of the aunt and uncle performing a dance (I think it was a cha cha?). Part of the dance involved the audience clapping at a certain point, but we were all so weirded out that they stole the first dance that we all just kind of stared in disbelief.

I've had so many questions for my caterer about small things, like when the champagne will be poured. He's very nice and very responsive, but I imagine he thinks I'm high maintenance.

Ha! Well my entire wedding is coming off high maintenance in my Moms opinion. But perhaps the one thing I did ask for that my Dad agreed on last night was complementary bottles of champagne for each guest.

I have our ceremony music down to the literal second start and cut off for each song. I have paid my DJ extra to arrive early enough so that we can practice it and I can hear how he's fading things in and out. I will probably also schedule other in-person meetings with him just to double check that all the notes make sense and that each song is in the right order, etc.

I personally don't think any of these things makes someone high maintenance. You're spending way too much money to settle for anything less than what you want. As long as you are asking in a polite way and not demanding answers in the middle of the night or something, it's totally reasonable to request things to be the way you envisioned or ask questions so you are prepared.

I also requested valet parking and private cars for some truly vip guests with private seating entrance and exit if they desire to be conspicuous and unrecognizable. I think that’s about the extent of the high maintenance request.

I agree. If you're spending a ton of money on something you deserve to have it the way you want it.

The things we want and don’t want are pretty simple but vendors think we’re asking for the moon. For example, we don’t want toasts and a grand entrance of any kind at the reception. We also don’t want a loud cheesy MC.. actually we don’t need the dj to say anything. However they mostly think guests will be lost and bored if they don’t, regardless of past experience where our guests know what is happening organically without loud announcements.

Finding a decent caterer with a diverse menu has been a nightmare. They will either have a great appetizer selection and bland entrees/sides or a great entree selection and the appetizers and sides are limited. We would like to serve plated prime rib with a vegetarian option and a dumpling display among other tasty appetizers during the cocktail hour but that has been impossible to find along with decent side dishes. So we may end up having the local Chinese place we frequent cater instead if we can’t find anything.
But those have been the two most stressful vendors to locate because they say our requests are “impossible to fulfill”. No they aren’t. Try harder for the money they are charging. We are particular about cake and getting a good one because we love wedding cake and so do our families and friends but that has been easy.

Where are you located? If in SE Pennsylvania, I could recommend some caterers.
