Hibiscus Flower Crown question

Abby, on August 13, 2019 at 10:44 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 4
I LOVE hibiscus flowers. I was told they wilt quickly. I was wondering if this is true. I really want a hibiscus flower crown for the wedding (getting married on Oahu), but obviously not if the flowers will just wilt.
Anyone live in Hawaii that knows or anyone with any experience with this type of flower? 🌺
Thanks in advance

I grow them during the summer and they do wilt pretty fast even on the plant. Similar to tulips. Both are stunning but will likely be expensive if you use real ones.

Hey Abby! Hibiscus flowers are really beautiful and would look so beautiful at your Hawaiian wedding. From my research, I found that they can last for about 8 hours after they are picked before completely wilted. You should leave them unpicked until the very last moment to get the most out of them, and then keep them refrigerated until you wear it.

Will you be making this yourself or will a florist be making it?

I vaguely remember wearing a fresh lei for graduation in high school (Wisconsin) and again in college (Arizona). The flowers were very delicate and were torn or wilted pretty quickly. Probably best to speak with a florist, a good one will be honest with you and offer alternatives if these will wilt too fast.

Hibiscus tend to be very finicky! I worked in a greenhouse that sold them and it was also so hard to keep them looking nice. I have a plant myself, and it does a lot better in my house than the greenhouse, but it still wilts pretty quickly. Which is sad, because they are so beautiful. If you want to do the crow, which would be amazing, I would definitely make this a last minute thing and maybe spritz it with water every now and then to help keep it hydrated.
