Henna or not to Henna?

AliciaNYC, on March 13, 2017 at 5:11 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 8

Need some advice! About 4 weeks before my wedding, a very good friend is getting married and she's having a Henna event. I really want to participate, but I'm a little nervous about the Henna all washing off in time for my wedding day. Anyone have experience with this before? Thanks!

I wouldn't risk it. I'd go and hang out but I wouldn't participate.

Henna only lasts around 8-10 days

I once got henna from a fair that took about a month to come off, granted, it would probably come off faster if you scrubbed it every day

I'd either get it where your not worried about it being SUPER visible/somewhere you wash often through the day, like your hands. Or just skip it and go for the company. I think four weeks would be enough time, especially with exfoliating. If you're really on the fence ask your friend, they probably have experience with that particular dye.

I've done henna/mehndi and it lasted a week or two. You're probably okay to do it.

There are different types of henna, and everyone's skin holds onto it differently but the majority of the time it's completely gone in 3 weeks with normal living. Mostly gone at 2 weeks if on your hands and arms. You can also help it come off quicker with hand sanitizer. I've noticed when I do hot yoga and sweat a lot, it can rub off after a week. I always try to keep mine as long as possible and it's definitely all gone before a month! I am sure your friend has done henna with this person she is hiring before, or at least similar ones in the area, ask her how long that type usually lasts on her and her friends/family. I think it is so cool and so fun to do! We had a mehndi as a part of our wedding and all my friends were so excited to do it. If they let you, ask if you can do your feet instead, if you're still worried about. I loved having my feet done.

When you get the henna done, just don't let it sit as long as everyone else does. This way you can still partake in the fun but your henna will be a little lighter and won't last as long. That combined with scrubbing and exfoliating will definitely get it out before your wedding. For safe measures, you can also do a test patch at an Indian salon.

This is so helpful, thank you all so much! Love the ideas of not letting it sit as long, and also it could be better on my feet just in case. I'm going barefoot for our wedding on the beach, so it might actually be awesome if it is still on my feet that day. Thank you!
