Helpppp. groom's tux

Biaani, on January 19, 2021 at 12:40 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 20

So my wedding colors have been dusty blue and gold / champagne from the getgo. I told FH and he agreed. I have 4 bridesmaids, 2 are wearing dusty blue and 2 are wearing navy blue. FH was supposed to wear a white tux jacket or black. All of a sudden he wants to wear this emerald green and I can't talk him out of it 😭

Would it look totally horrible? He says it goes because it's a spring wedding.

That looks more dark teal or peacock, which are greens with a lot of blue and fine. Greens more yellow, Kelly green or most emerald, not blue-greens, I would not like. However, that is just if matching colors side by side, swatches. Real people do not have to fit in to a 2 color scheme. Just not clash. Add a color.

I get you. I don't mind if they don't match. I just don't want it to clash.

your picture blown up, middle is peacock blue dress, right side is dark teal. Any of these are nice with dusty blue and navy, And blue grey slate and blue spruce. Yellowish greens, no no , and not midnight blue which is not only blue but a little purple.
When you have enough shades, it is like flowers in a garden, you see the overall nice variation in tones, and it is a good thing.

That color is actually very nice! I don't think the color will clash! I know some places offer a free at-home try on... Have you thought about doing that to see what it looks like in person?

The wedding industry has been pushing a rather simplistic design idea, matchy -matchy, that the best and easiest thing is to have clothes and decorations and flowers all match the same few colors. No one in fashion design, or interior design, thinks that is anything but bad design. A marketing tool for the industry, which has spawned many fashion mistakes and etiquette bombs. Etiquette here, this is FI wedding, and he can pick what he wants to wear, and wants groomsmen to wear. Fashion, the ties or pocket squares or vests or cumberbunds or shirt studs of men's clothes are always chosen to match the suit itself. Never, ask any classy men's clothier or tailor, never to match his date, or a BM and her clothes. That is for preschool twins mommies to do because it os so cute! But should never be done with men's accessories, no matter how the fashion industry wants to make money from it. And if you do match the men's accessories to the suit or tux they are wearing, then more than half of people's issues with choice of groomside and brideside colors disappear. People standaing near each other can differ greatly, if you don't try wrapping guys in items of bride side dress colors. So when FI tries on his bluish green, do not put a pocket square or tie that matches the women's stuff on him. Match his accessories to coordinate with jacket and shirt. And at most, hang a navy dress or jacket, or something dusty blue, on a nearby rack or chair. Clashes like forest green and lime, or olive green and turquoise, or mauve and orange, will jump at you. Anything else, need not match. And unless the picture of the suit greatly distorted the color, he will be fine. 🙂
More than 25 years of beading luxe materials, making costumes, gowns, and handmade quilts, I really hate the way the industry for its own profit has brides doing unnecessary controlling things, which unnecessarily box in the groom and the women bridal party, to achieve a look any real fashion designer would turn his nose up at. And matching men's accessories to women's dresses is such a thing. Your guy has way more flexibility if you don't do "cute."

I think it would look great AND he would stand out a bit more. Is there any way to put this color against some of the other wdding parties attire to make sure it isn't too far out of place?

He is distinctly green, your side blues, but I think they are fine.

So we each got a letter from your lovely fiance about being fitted for suits. Does she know we not only sing together and dance together, but wear our kits to formal occasions? No, I figured you had not said anything yet.

Wow I’m so glad you said this I have like seven different colors that all coordinate and a lot of people are having trouble wrapping their heads around it not being like “emerald and rose” or something.

Maybe consider a blue and green tie and blue pocket square or boutinerre to tie it in? Or throw some darker greenery in your girls’ bouquets to pull the green in on your side

The suit jacket with plaid tie is actually on a barely tinted blue shirt, maker calls it blue water. But yes, a little subtle touch here, a little there. Go to any really classy place or party, you don't see the key people dressed alike, guys in navy or tan suits with fuchsia or turquoise pocket squares and tie or vests that match 5 women's dresses and the table cloths and ribbons on chair covers. While the vases and placecards match the men's suits. You see a much greater variety and richness of color. And with the variety, much better pictures. Might as well have fun with it.
Kudos to the OP who caught a curve ball from FI, and is checking out the possibilities.
