Me and my FH are trying to find ways to have a cheap wedding but make it not look cheap. Any advice is much appreciated such as ways to cut costs or things that may not be needed for the wedding.

Mine’s a budget wedding since we’re paying for things ourselves, so my top 3 biggest tips are:

For venue look in your own hometown, find out if you qualify for citizenship discounts for using parks and community centers. We paid $250 for our venue, it includes a gazebo for the ceremony and a private lakeside building for the reception. If we weren’t citizens of the town it would’ve cost us $700.

Use sites like Thumbtack or Gigsalad to book vendors. They let you find vendors based on your exact budget, not just a range. You’ll only make contact with vendors that can work with your budget. We booked most of our vendors this way. It was quick!

Hobby Lobby is easily the cheapest craft store and they have a TON of wedding stuff! They have weekly sales that cycle through their sections, each week that section is 50% off. We went during their tabletop sale which included wedding stuff and got it all 50% off! We paid $150 for 90% of our decor this way! You can also use a 40% off coupon on any one item in the store every single day. We used it to buy our gorgeous cupcake stand.

I have diyed all of our devorations. Found a lot of stuff on wish. Burlington for mens appareal, discount shopped, and i know most ppl here dont agree but we r doing our own catering and having a taco bar. Ppl will tell u not too, but it is what works for us and our guests. We are having a smaller wedding and our venue is not a normal wedding venue, as we are getting married at a campground. The flowers we got at hobby lobby on sale. I made bouquest, boutonnieres, centerpieces. We have been piecong together little by little. My brother n sister in law are getting married a week after us and are doing everything for 200. So it can be done, with a little time and imagination.

I find my wedding dress on the sale rack at a 2nd hand store, I looked for a venue that was big enough to do both cemoeny and reception and did everything and i look everything else for cheap and I'm DIYing a lot of stuff and I have been a lot of my stuff on Amazon or getting on the sale rack the stores have and I ordered my save the date and invations online and waited until the website had discounts on there stuff. I'm doing cupcakes and not a wedding cake. There is a lot of ways to have a cheap wedding and it still look nice. In total so far with dress, venue, the dj, paster and the photographer. I have only spend 8,000.

And I agree with everyone else cut your guest list. My budget only for 100 people. On my guest i send out 84 save the date cards but I'm thinking king about plus ones and kids.

We are having ours in a friend's backyard that is beautiful, our wedding cake from Sam's, printing our invitations (our save the dates were on sale, I printed them, and it cost us $11), we have a family photographer, my bridesmaids are not carrying flowers and the groomsmen are not getting boutonnieres either (only me, my future hubby, and my 10 year old son, who is our ring bearer), and we are using Spotify for music. Just choose what is most important to you guys and stay true to that. For us, it was string music for the ceremony and yummy food. However, we shopped around for food and got a great deal. We set the date out 14 months, and have slowly stocked up on decor as we go, from other family weddings and Facebook marketplace. And we are borrowing from family and friends too, like tables and decor, and doing a lot of DIY on signs. We are lucky that we can do that on ourselves! If you pace out your cost, it's not so bad!

We didn’t do save the dates, limited our flowers to just the centerpieces and bouquets(people care about food and dancing the most not looking at flowers) , no boutonnieres ( they end up looking droopy and sad at the end of the night), our wedding is at a restaurant ( no venue fee and it comes with linens, silverware, etc) and only a small cake for cutting ( cakes are ridiculously expensive) with individual desserts for the guests. I also got my dress for under $1k at Bhldn with limited alterations needed. Biggest thing was cutting the wedding list to under 90 people. Still bigger than I wanted as fiancés mother kept adding people but it sets help with costs.

Do you already have your venue booked? If not, maybe consider an afternoon wedding. That’s what I’m doing - I’m a little disappointed that it’s not in the evening, but it’s allowing me to have my dream venue at half the cost for the exact same ceremony, food, and reception. So, it depends what your priorities are. You can also shop at a sample sale for your dress. As for flowers, I had a friend who opted to get a wooden bouquet for herself and her bridesmaids, which was much more affordable and beautiful than it sounds.. and ended up being a wonderful keepsake.

Biggest saving without compromising on quality will come from:
    - cutting down guest list & inviting only your closest family & friends
    - not getting married on Saturday or Friday - venue cost is significantly less on off-days & off-season
Unnecessary things you can definitely cut out:
    - STDs & invites: go digital, there are beautiful, high-end looking options out there
    - expensive wedding dress - buy off the rack or at trunk shows. There are also many gorgeous, inexpensive gowns that you can find.
    - skip expensive favors
    - serve 2 signature cocktails & good wine / beer, instead of having full, open bar
    - skip videography if you don’t care about it
    - skip large bridal party
    - skip expensive designer shoes that you will wear only once, nobody will see them anyway
    - skip florist & DIY your own flowers if you are creative or have family members who are, buy fresh flowers in bulk
If we were on a tight budget, I’d definitely have a destination wedding in one of great resorts in Mexico, where they take care of everything for $5-6,000 & it all looks beautiful. And then you can make a great trip/honeymoon out of it too!
