Help with wedding timeline....

megan, on October 2, 2019 at 12:37 PM Posted in Planning 0 2
Hey WW community! Get ready for a long post...?

Hoping for a little help here.... our wedding is at the end of August and we are trying to figure out where we actually want our ceremony. Traditionally, my fiancee and I are not traditional LOL. I really loved the idea of writing our own vows and having a non-church wedding, but am kind of agnostic to where it takes place.

My mom and dad on the other hand (are completely understanding of what I want and would do it in a heartbeat), are really hoping we choose to get married in the same church they did, as well as my great grandmother, and the church also had significant meaning to my grandfather who passed away last year.

I would love to be able to incorporate that into our day to honor all of them, and we think we have found a priest who will let us write our own vows in addition to the normal catholic vows (writing our own vows was #1 in importance during our ceremony). If we do end up having it in a church, I would like the first time we see each other to be walking down the aisle. So that brings us to our major issue...time.

The time the church offers is 1:30 or 6:30, and we would love an evening reception as our venue is made entirely of glass overlooking the downtown area. Can someone tell me if this is absolutely insane timeline wise?

4PM-5PM - Bride takes photos with bridesmaids & immediate family, Groom takes photos with groomsmen & immediate family.

5:30 - Head to church

6:30 - 7:15 (if we can get a shortened catholic ceremony)

Cocktail hour @ Reception site (4 mins away) - 7:30 - 8:15 (bride and groom to take blended family photos and individual photos during this time

Intro of bridal party & Cake Cutting 8:20

Dinner service begin at 8:30 (only 2 courses, salad and main entree, dessert in stations)

Dancing until 12:30AM

My only concern is us not being able to do a shortened ceremony so it would look like this:

4PM-5PM - Bride takes photos with bridesmaids & immediate family, Groom takes photos with groomsmen & immediate family.

5:30 - Head to church

6:30 - 7:30 (if we can get a shortened catholic ceremony)

Cocktail hour @ Reception site (4 mins away) - 7:45 - 8:15 (bride and groom to take blended family photos and individual photos during this time

Intro of bridal party & Cake Cutting 8:30

Dinner service begin at 8:45 (only 2 courses, salad and main entree, dessert in stations)

Dancing until 12:30AM

Is 8:45 to late for dinner? is 45 minutes enough time for us to take sufficient photos with blended bridesmaid/groomsmen, blended families, and couple?

Thanks guys!!

My only concerns would be the picture timeline. My FH and I blocked off an hour for us to take our couple portraits (just us alone). I don’t think 45 minutes is enough for family and individual. We blocked off an hour prior to that for the girls/bride/moms and boys/groom/dads photos. Maybe ask your photographer what they recommend! Our photographer is contracted for 8 hours (1-9)

Welcome to the WeddingWire community Megan!

I don’t think having dinner served at 8:45 PM is too late, after all, it’s only 15 minutes later than your alternative timeline.

As the pp suggested, I would definitely recommend discussing this with your photographer and ask how long they would usually allocate to photos after the ceremony.
