Help with Wedding Colors

Amber, on October 4, 2019 at 12:56 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 14
I need some suggestions for wedding colors, originally I was think some blush, darker pink, black and grays with some silver. But my FH wants some Marvel superhero touches. The Marvel comics and characters seem to have a lot of blue and red. I’m really hoping for some pink in the wedding colors especially since I’m leaning towards a blush wedding dress, but I’m afraid it’ll clash with the red.

Maybe you can do lighter colors such as a dusty blue rather than a really bright one or a darker burgundy rather than a bright red aha

    Viv Vision - she's purple/pink imo

    Spider Gwen / Gwenpoole - Pink/Black/White

    Gambit - Black/Brown/Blue/Pink/Purple

    Pixie - Pink/yellow/black

    Songbird - White/pink/black

Karolina Dean - She's kind of multicolored with her superpowers and can be a wide range

There's quite a variety of pinks if you're looking for it, I just happen to love Marvel.

Also groomsmen can wear superhero themed shirts under their tux, added into the cufflinks (which could be groomsman gifts)? I'm sure you've seen them on Pinterest, to add it in, maybe in a more subtle way if it doesn't work with a scheme. Smiley smile

If i were in your situation, I would remind my FH that this is a wedding not a child’s birthday party, and stick to my original color scheme! Maybe get him a Marvel-themed grooms cake and some super hero socks to wear. You could also suggest to his groomsmen that they include the marvel theme in his bachelor party

Wow -- even I kind of take offense to this. A wedding is meant to be about a couple and can be about more than just some traditional look. I'm having a Harry Potter wedding, should I remind myself and my FH that it's not a child birthday party? Honestly, compromise in a situation where you might not think colors will match up is totally fine -- but being insulting to something that he wants is the wrong route to go. It's totally fine he wants elements of Marvel and he should be able to have some sort of push and pull in his own wedding. I agree that a grooms cake in the theme of Marvel might end up working out for him or a bachelor party, but if he wants it more than there... it's not fair to be me-me-me... it's about being "together".

I would absolutely say you can go with different, maybe more palatable, hues of those colors. Navy, burgundy, wine, all great choices that compliment blush and still in line with marvel colors.

But also depending on what touches your adding, it doesn't have to be full in line with your color scheme. I'm sure you've seen the groomsmen with the superhero shirts under the tuxes. There's also décor, centerpieces, and boutonnieres that can be as subtle or obviously marvel themed as you want. You could even incorporate comic book pages in a lot of really cute ways to take it a step further. You may still need to tone down some of those colors, but that way you can keep the colors you like, while adding his touches.

What about subtle touches? My husband loves sports so we included subtle sports themed things. I had a NJ Devil's garter as you can see in the photo. What about a Marvel garter for you? What about a Marvel groom's cake? If you do a photo booth you could have Marevel props. Or another idea is having the groomsmen wear Marvel socks or cufflinks. I think it is important to include touches of both of your personalities.

There is most defiantly a way to blend your colors with a few of the classic and iconic color themes from the Marvel universe. Like what most of the other ladies have mentioned, try replacing the bold primary colors with muted but bold alternatives. Burgundy, Navy, Wine, and Forest Green can still blend nicely with your colors.

Are you a Marvel fan as well? I’m only asking because if you’re not I don’t think you should feel pressured to make you colors fit with a character you’re not in to.

Since this is going to be a compromise I think you should try asking him if there are 3-4 characters that are his favorites and only use them. My FH is a Marvel fan as well and if there is anything I’ve learned from him about it is that there are A TON OF CHARACTERS😆. Whatever turns out, just remember that you two will be the true superhero’s of the day!

No offense was meant. I simply said if I were in her situation, it is what I personally would do. Birthday parties are typically themed. I think oftentimes the grooms just think of the wedding as a party, rather than an actual wedding. She has obviously already chosen a color scheme, and envisioned herself in a blush dress. I merely suggested that rather than changing the entire color scheme of the wedding (and not to mention the vision she had of herself in her wedding dress!) that she add small touches of the Marvel theme in order to compromise (ie, grooms cake, different marvel character on socks for each groomsmen to wear, Marvel themed bachelor party, etc.). Never once did I suggest she insult her FH and his interests- just pointed out that an entire marvel theme may be better for a birthday party. Heck, I love Hello Kitty and Powerpuff Girls! But I understand it is not something my FH is into you, and would never try to force that into a wedding theme. Instead, I would do small little touches, or save it for my birthday when it IS all me me me

I also found some other cute ideas she could include. I tend to think as long they keep things subtle it won't look like a kid's birthday party. I agree that if overdone it can look rather childish, but including touches of both of them are important.

Absolutely! There are definitely ways to incorporate his interests without her having to compromise on her vision and change the entire color scheme. Small subtle nods to the marvel theme wouldn’t require any change in color scheme. The props for the Photo Booth are adorable also!!

We’re still very early in the planning process so nothing has been bought or booked yet so I wouldn’t really be changing anything. He knows how much I love pink and agrees that it definitely has to be a color. I may not be any near as big of a fan as him as I’ve never read the comics, but I still love the movies. They’re an important part of our relationship as we always make a point to see any new ones in the theaters together. I’m already planning on making some paper flowers so I’m thinking maybe making some out of comic book pages to mix in. Probably some socks, undershirts, cufflinks for the groomsmen. I’ve seen some boutonnières with little action figures online. Not planning on doing a garter/bouquet toss or a grooms cake. But I have seen some nice looking cakes with a Marvel back or themed cake toppers.

I saw that you aren't getting married for another 3 years so you have plenty of time. I just thought the photo inspiration might help you with ideas that don't require you to pick other colors.

We didn't do a garter toss either, but I still choose to have one and I wanted it to be something he would like since he was the only one seeing it. He loved it and we got a pretty cool photo during our first look of me showing him the garter on my leg. We didn't do a groom's cake or special cake topper, but we did other things to incorporate sports aside from the garter. Our colors were black and red which are the colors of my husband's favorite hockey team and I happen to love red roses so that worked perfectly. We also had a baseball and hockey jersey as our guestbooks and we made escort cards that looked like tickets to a game.

Yes, that date isn’t set yet we might do a year earlier. The plan is to see how our savings and jobs are coming along over the next couple of months and make a decision before we tour venues at the beginning of next year. I’m just trying to get some ideas for future reference.
