Help with Preserving My Dress After Postponing

Ashley, on October 23, 2014 at 12:15 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 9

Hey Brides to Be! My fiance and I were originally supposed to get married this Sept. however due to unforseen family circumstances we postponed until next Sept 12th. However, my dress is ready and being shipped next week. My dress was really expensive and now I am worried that it will get ruined. I can have it preserved, but it does cost around $400 and I am already feeling guilty about spending so much on my dress. I have done some searches, but cant find any info on how long my dress will be okay if I dont have it preserved. Any advice or help would be great!

Personally, I would just spend the money to have it preserved

With less than a year to go I really think you will be fine. Just put it in a garment bag in a dry area.

I would think it should be fine. The salon may also be able to store it for it...

If you have not had fittings (and perspired in it), it should be just fine hanging for a year.

If you have had it on for any length of time, the perspiration could yellow the fabric in a year. So, you'd want to have it dry-cleaned -- but preserving it would not be necessary.

Since you have not worn it (other than, maybe, for fittings), you should be able to store it in a garment bag until before the new wedding date. HOWEVER, I would locate a reputable cleaner in your area who can clean the dress for you prior to the wedding (just in case any stains appear from sweat or oils) and find out what kind of lead time they would need to have it ready in time for the wedding.

I have not even tried the dress on. Kleinfeld's is shipping it next week so I have not even seen it yet. I just did not know how long my dress would be okay without the preservation! Thanks for the help!

Your dress will be fine for less than a year. Just store it in a cool, dark, dry place inside of the garment bag.

I had my dress for just under a year before my wedding in a garment bag in my closet and it was still brand new and looking fresh for my wedding day. No preservation required. The store might also have some tips for you.

Why don't you tell Kleinfeld's the situation before they ship it out to you. Maybe they can either store it for you and send it as you get closer or they can tell you how to store it. They should have very familiar with keeping a dress in stock.
