Help with a note on gifts

Julianne, on July 6, 2023 at 8:45 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 8

I want to ask my guests in a polite way to ship all gifts directly to address provided in my online registries. The reason being is I live in a small apartment and my parents (who live 2 hours away) will be holding onto my gifts until I buy a house. I rather not have them lug all the gifts down to their house if they don't have to! Anyone know of a nice/cute way to say this on the invite? Thanks!

Do you have a registry? Most online registries now ask for a shipping address, so you can just put in your parents’ address instead of your own. It won’t catch the people who go off registry, but that will hopefully be minimal.

Gifts should not be mentioned at all on the invite.

If they are purchasing from your registry, put the address on the registry that you want the gifts to be sent to. The only issue you may run into is that some might use the return address on the invite.

Nothing about gifts should be included on or in an invitation. Every registry I’ve seen either posts the shipping address or ships directly to an address provided by the couple.

How are people supposed to know where you are registered if you do not mention it on the invite? Lol

It's properly never on the invitation. That would be considered gift grabbing. Any reference needs to be at arm's length. For example, guests can google "Yournames registry" on their own (I do this all the time), you can include a link on a wedding website, or do it the old fashioned way by having people ask those close to you.

The easiest way would be to create a wedding website that has a link to your registry on it. Include your wedding website address on your invitation, or on an insert that goes along with your invitation.

Never refer to gift at all on an invitation.

I suggest putting a link to your website, and posting the information there. Also when you register there's usually an option to set a shipping address.

Yes, you can have a link to a wedding website on your save the dates, invitation or both. Never directly on the invitation, though.
