Help! What color palette, shoes, earrings?

Dawn, on March 18, 2015 at 3:23 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 19

I said yes to the dress, but now I'm stumped! It's elegant/classy, so I'd like to keep that look without crossing over into vintage/art deco too much. The ceremony & reception are in a castle-type hotel in Dublin, Ireland. Lots of marble, ornate chandeliers, antique furniture. Photos will be in the gardens outside which have roses, fountains, and beautiful blooming landscape.

What shoes? I need to pick my shoes soon so I have them for alterations. I like heels: peep toe and d'orsay. I am thinking satin in the ivory color of the dress underlay? Maybe with some bling on the toe? Would going with a color (like red) be tacky?

What about earrings? I want some dangle, but not huge chandeliers.

And what color palette for flowers and decorations would go with the dress & venue? We'd like to stay in the Pink/Red/Orange side of the color wheel (not blues, greens, or purples), but how to put those together without looking too autumn, beach or outdoors-picnic/barn like?

Beautiful dress and venue! I think you could really go with any color shoes: silver or pewter (I can't really tell what metallic is on your dress), ivory. I don't think red would be tacky at all.

I would skip a necklace and agree you shouldn't go too big on the earrings. I thought I wanted drop earrings since I'm not wearing a necklace either, but I found the perfect pair this weekend. I'll post a picture from mobile in a sec. I think a sparkly or even more plain bracelet could work too.

Here are my earrings. It's hard to tell but they're bigger than they look and do hang a bit past my ear lobes.

Thanks! Your earrings are lovely! did you order them online?

Yeah, even with a dangle, I thought bigger on the lobe part. So if the lobe part is big enough, maybe no need for dangle?! ;-)

The dress description on the Maggie site says it has pewter, but it looks more muted/antiqued gold. When I google pewter, I get really washed out dull grey stuff. And when I google gold, I get really bright shiny yellow gold options. So it's tough to find the right search words to get something in the "zone."

Your dress is GORGEOUS! I love it! I don't think I would do too much of an earring because the straps come up close to your neck, so you already have bling and detail close to your face

I saw the gold tones in your dress as well (Is the dress blue and black, or gold and white hahaha)

I would call it maybe an "antique gold"? maybe that will give you better results when searching colours!

Popular colour palette right now is dusty rose and gold right now. It is very elegant and soft and beautiful

You could also do a raspberry colour (kind of red and kind of pink) with soft dove grey? then it isn't autumn colours/beach/ barn

There are some pretty inspiration boards/palettes out there for blush/pink + peach + gold + red weddings.

Here are some examples. Admittedly, some of the inspiration photos are more "cutsie" than elegant... but you can, at least, see all the colors together.

And here are some inspiration boards for blush/pink + peach + gold.

Its a more muted palette that work really well with the room (based on the pics posted)

And you might try looking for "champagne" shoes instead of gold or pewter because, as you have noted, the Maggie pewter has a subtle warm/gold undertone.

Thanks Sarah & songbird for the ideas! Yeah, antique gold is probably a little more what the metallic color would be (at least for searching). Thanks for the search terms that I can use to browse some palettes. And champagne color for the shoes is good idea! Thanks!

I agree about the champagne color. It's a nice blend of gold and beige and compliments so many other colors. go to http://www.magnetstreet.com/weddings and under "free samples" on the top menu, to the far right and then pick their wedding color swatch option. It lets you put up to 4 colors side by side and then it will mail you your colors on strips so you can give them to your vendors.

Personally, I'd like to see burgundy colors. You, the bride, don't want to blend in with your environment, you want to stand out. Your dress is exquisite...keep jewelry at a minimum, and keep it classic. Perhaps some jewelry for your hair if you're not wearing a veil.

Thanks cut rate diamonds. Yes, leaning toward antiqued or rosy gold.

Laura, thanks for the link! I will definitely by using that. what a great resource!

Maria, I am with you on that - I don't want to blend, I want to stand out, but of course in a classy way. So complicated, huh?! But yeah, I am leaning toward something red-ish. I haven't been able to think of other words for red and Burgundy might be it! I googled "burgundy and champagne wedding palette" and found a pair of shoes with a color I think could possibly work - see attached. What do you think of it?

Next I will try googling "champagne" with other red-ish colors like "malbec," "merlot," and "cabernet" and see what else I get, lol!

What if you wore blue satin shoes for your "something blue"? look around etsy for jewelry as well, i spent weeks looking through, but found something that you would think was a matching set with my dress and belt!

Dawn...So sorry...just saw this thread was continued.... Gorgeous shoe!!! I think it will look lovely, but I'm partial to keeping the shoe streamlined if wearing a very ornate dress and, in my case, jewelry. The first pic is my shoe...they are ivory, with some shimmer, and rose gold. They match my ivory bead 'n lace dress and rose gold/pearl/crystal jewelry. I envision your dress with something more like the second shoe...or at least those colors (I don't love it, I just couldn't quite locate a great pic). But if you had to pick a pair with color, the one you selected is perfect!! Really love it!
