Help? Wedding Party Gifts

Jill, on March 29, 2023 at 5:30 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 6

When I asked my bridesmaids to be my bridesmaids I gave them a bag of gifts.

Now that I'm a little over 5 months away from my wedding day, I'm questioning if I need to give them another gift either the day of or the day after I say I DO..

The gifts they already got had a necklace I want them to wear for the wedding, and a few other misc. things.

If I were to give them a thank you gift, what would you give/have you gotten?

I would shop like it's their birthday. I would do a small thank you gift, yes. It doesn't have to be anything huge, though.

Things for your wedding aren't really a gift for them specifically, so the necklaces would really be more for you than them.

I’m doing a mix of the stuff they’ll need for the wedding day, like the jewelry, and stuff I think they could actually want/use. Some of it I felt worked more universally, like a travel jewelry case (which will have their wedding jewelry in it but of course they can use it for whatever after), and then some gifts I’m getting separately so it’s focused on the interests of each woman. If you already got their wedding day jewelry, you can get them another piece that speaks more to their personal style than something intended for your day.

I was so tired of doing the same thing. Face mask, slipped, customization, etc. so me and my fiancé threw a catered brunch to show our appreciation and it turned out amazing ! It was different and worth the money 🥰

Shop like it’s their birthday. What are their individual hobbies and interests? Decide your per person budget and look for something that each will enjoy based on their interests. Are they into cooking, entertaining, reading, sports, movies, pets, something else entirely?

The proposal gifts are a new Instagram trend and are completely optional on a budget. Wedding day props for your pictures (jewelry, robes/pjs, totes, hair/makeup, dresses, etc) are not gifts for them.

I wouldn't have given them a "proposal" gift in the first place. IMO that is nothing more than an instagram trend that puts too much pressure on people to accept. As for the necklaces, IMO it's inappropriate to insist that they wear them to the wedding. You have discretion over the dress and perhaps a general direction in terms of shoes, but that's all.

I'd give each a thank you gift that is specific to her taste or something they can use as they see fit.

I didn't do proposal gifts. We're staying in log cabins for the weekend at my wedding venue in the woods. I'm giving these things in each of their baskets:

    - a bracelet for each of them to wear at the wedding, and afterward. My bridesmaids are each wearing a different color that they chose from my palette, and I had the bracelets handmade in Goa with a stone to match each color. I selected the stones to match their personal styles and the bracelet design to be something I thought each of them would wear ongoingly, and would also match my wedding.

    - 1-2 pieces of clothing each for everyday use. I'm living in Nepal, coming home to the US for the wedding, and I'm bringing them some things I think they'd like from here. Clothing is very inexpensive here, but these items are expensive when imported to the US, and I know they'd like them.

    - a botanical soap

    - a packet of incense

    - a bottle of wine or sparkling cider, chocolate, and a salty snack to enjoy at the wedding weekend

Good luck! I'm curious to see what other people are doing!!
