Help - Travel & Health Issues

Jasmine, on March 9, 2020 at 11:11 AM Posted in Family and Relationships 0 6
Ok so my fiancé’s sister is getting married a few months before us on a cruise. The cruise is in May and it’s going to the Bahamas. I’m a little concern however I’m more worried about her mother. The news is saying that older people and people with health issues should NOT travel. Her mother has lupus and scaring on her lungs. Am I being over concerned?

I don't think you're being over concerned, but you also can't keep others from doing what they're going to do. I think you're perfectly justified in expressing your concern to your FMIL for her health, but ultimately it will be her decision. I'm sorry you're dealing with this, hopefully it will all work out for the best!

You’re allowed to be concerned, but you can’t control what another adult decides to do.

I haven’t said anything yet because I don’t want to get anyone worked up, but inside I’m really worried.

I would just tell your fiancé about your concerns and see how he feels. If he shares your concerns, hopefully he'll express that to his mother or sister and they can help her decide on the best course of action for her health.

Yes, there is cause for concern. However, COVID-19 is not going away any time soon. The estimates are that it will be a year to a year and a half before there is a vaccine for it. And even then, if it's like the flu vaccine, it may not be all that effective. Some people just decide that if the choices are being hermits for a very long and unpredictable amount of time or taking the risk, it's better to take the risk.

You have a right to be concerned older people with preexisting conditions need to be extra careful. As pp said talk to your fiance to bring the concerns up to his mom.
