Help! Should I hire a decorator?

D'Sashia, on May 8, 2017 at 7:16 PM Posted in Planning 1 7

My wedding isn't until September 2018 so I'd like a lot of advice from those of you who are a bit further than I am as far as budgeting and planning for my wedding. Can anyone tell me how much should I be willing to dish out to hire someone to decorate? I'm new at this wedding stuff lol so I'm all over the place right now.

It totally depends on how "DIY and hands on" you want to be. Not only are you paying for time and talent you also pay for all the decor. Are you planning on hiring a planner or DOC for your event?

I am thinking more in terms of what are my guests going to remember the most which will be the service, food, drink, and music. They won't care about a lot of favors or fancy decor yes you want some but in a lot of cases less is more.

Does your venue come with a doc?

I would work out venues, photographer, food/drink first and see how much is left in your budget. Decor is actually one of the least important things for wedding planning

I've worked out the venues, caterers, and photographers. Unfortunately my venue does not come with a DOC. I'm tryna figure out if hiring someone to decorate is really worth it. I'm pretty crafty but I'm also planning my own wedding and I don't want to find myself overwhelmed. HOWEVER, if I can come out cheaper that way, I'm willing to take on the project.

My florist is doing all the "decorating " for me. They are going to decorate the ceremony space and flip the room for the reception. I'm renting items from them so they included the cost of staging the rooms for me.

Do you know what type of decorations you want?

@taetae88 Well my venue is very antique like, on the second floor of a 100 year old building that has floor to ceiling length windows, that cast a very beautiful sunset, and hardwood floors and nicely dimmed lighting, so because the setting is already naturally beautiful, I'm just looking for floral centerpieces, and lighting. Nothing too over the top
