help...no bubbles, no rice...what did you use or any suggestions?

Candace523, on June 10, 2008 at 4:54 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 31

Ok, so we were going to use these 3 dime sized rose buds tied w/ a ribbon w/ our names and date so guests can throw them then pick them up as favors, but it seems that everyone is knocking it down, saying people will not want to pick them up/ throw them and that the pictures will be weird....we want to avoid messy birdseed that will get in my gown since we are leaving in our atire to go to italy and the bubbles make sticky messes, so we wanted to avoid these to options, of course rice is outlawed..so thats out...any one have any suggestions????? please help!!!!!! thanks

I know how you feel..I really have issues with the rice, birdseed, and bubbles myself. Honestly most things people throw at you are gonna be messy, but you can always do sparklers which make for nice pictures. You might even be able to get clear or pearl glitter and use that....even if it's on you it will be pretty!

My best friend used lavender and it was pretty and did not stay on her dress. She gave out tiny bags filled with it that had a little ribbon drawstring.

I don't think there's anything wrong with your original rose idea, but I really doubt people will pick them back up and take them home. The lavender idea is a good one-along the same idea as flowers, or you can do flower petals. Sparklers are my favorite, but abviously is depends on the time of your departure (if its not dark, sparklers don't make sense). The other issue with sparklers is that they are illegal in a lot of areas. I just did a wedding where the Groom made little LED colored lights attached to batteries and the pictures were pretty neat.

I didn't think of lavender, that's a very good idea.

Here are some online places that have the biodegradable confetti:

    Loose confetti-

I was hoping you would ask that question here are a couple of websites you can order the confetti from.

You should be able to find something that will suit your needs. The confetti is also affordable, which in my opinion is a plus. Let me know if you have any more questions.

I have looked at some of these and other sites and it looks like this is what we are going to go with. Now we need to figure out how to hand it out, since we still have the rose faovrs. Do you think it would be tacky to put some in the little clear communion cups? we looked into the cute envelops but thats going to total us having $450 in just the confetti and bags and we need to keep cost bags....so what do you think? I do love the sparkler idea but our wedding is at 3

Yes, many event locations we work with no longer allow rice, seeds, etc. to be tossed. We suggest wedding wands, which have now become a favorite of the event locations we work with! They are clear wands tied with a ribbon printed with the names and wedding date of the couple. They come in a variety of colors as well to match any wedding color scheme. The other option is sparklers; however, most locations require them to carbon and phosphate free (will not cause staining of concrete, etc.) You would want to check with your location because some consider them a fire hazard in the dry summer months. Please let me know if you have any questions!

I got tulle circles and ribbon for my sister's baby shower from wal-mart and it was super cheap.

I got the rice that is good for the birds, actually its not rice, but it is good with them and they are in heart shapes for cheap and the bags, go to oriental trading.com, they sell it in bulk, and other things as well that you might find interesting and reasonable. good luck.

How about ringing bells instead of throwing something? I have seen them at several weddings this year.

Ok the wedding wands sounds interesting, but i would like some more information on it....the bells are a cute idea and would be nice, but....i am concerned about the price, and i cant use them as wedding favors because i already have them.....i am worried about the wedding wands in that aspect to....Thank you guys so much for your suggestions....i know it probably sounds like i am hard to please, but im just trying to save money, i know you all know how that is. So now i guess its still between the biodegradable confetti and the wedding wands....and possible the bells...

What about silk rose petals, they are pretty cheap and don't stain in places that say no petals because they are fake. plus due to the size i don't think it will get caught in a dress.

Rose petals are a good idea they photography very well. You can even do selective color in the shot...you know everything in black & white except the petals.

Wedding wands with streamers are great. No mess and you can get them in the colors for your wedding.

The wands we have are $65.00 for a set of 50. The price includes the wands and printed ribbon which is customized with your name and wedding date. Some of our brides use them as the favor, but most do not. If you are using the wands for leaving the church, have guests bring them to the wedding and do a special dance with them. We have received that idea from some of our clients as well. Not sure how this price works with your budget, but your other option is to mimic this idea by using plain ribbon and getting the plastic wands on your own. Your local plastic supplier might be able to provide you with these. This might be cheaper, but I am not quite sure. It is worth looking into though.
