Help!! My dress doesn’t fit!

Alyson, on January 6, 2021 at 1:54 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 9
I ordered my dress back in June and it just came in about 2 weeks ago. When I went to try it on before taking it out of the store, the dress zipped, however the top of the dress in my back area has buttons, which are not able to be buttoned at all! I was so disappointed and have been stressing about this since the appointment. I haven’t gained wait since my originally appointment, and I fear that even if I were to go in a diet, I can exactly lose weight in my rib area, there isn’t much there!
When I called the shop to explain the problem the owner explained that I friend on the sample size (10) and she had to clip it, so that’s why she ordered a size 8... she did take my measurements as well, but I feel like something is not adding up.
Any suggestions??

Here are the pictures for reference, the first is a picture the first time I tried on the dress, the second 2 are now.

Yikes. I am really surprised she went a size down when she ordered your dress, as it looks like the one you tried on was barely clipped at all. Plus, bridal consultants know that sample dresses are often times stretched out a bit from being tried on so often. And they also know it is always better to have a dress that is too large and can be altered down, rather than vice versa. I hate to say it, but I think she should have ordered the size the sample was. That is a huge amount of area that won’t button up, and you are already so slim! I don’t think a diet is going to fix that problem. If I were you, I would call the bridal salon back and see If there’s anyway they can Order it in the larger size and allow you to return yours. If they absolutely will not work with you, I would speak to a seamstress ASAP and see what options you have available to make your dress fit. So sorry girl! For what it’s worth, the dress is Beautiful on you!

My experience was that the sample dresses are typically stretched out from being tried on so many times. For my dress, I fit into the sample size 8, but ordered a size 10 "just to be safe" and it doesn't fit. Smiley atonished I agree no amount of dieting will solve this issue (and you certainly don't need it!). Did the store reference your measurements against the designer's size chart? I can't believe that as an owner she doesn't realize samples are stretched out, and that she actually ordered a smaller size. I would ask her how your measurements compared to the sizing chart provided by the designer - it feels like she really made a huge mistake here. If nothing else, get a seamstress's opinion ASAP. I think they might be able to change the back to lace-up which might help, but it changes the overall look of this dress which is still super unfair to you (esp. if you don't like the corset look in the back).

Comparing your measurements against the size chart of your dress designer is a great idea. Most designers offer their size charts online, so you might want to check that out! If you can show the store owner that the incorrect size for your measurements was ordered, they should definitely take accountability for their mistake and make it right!

I agree with the ladies above. This is the fault of the salon, not you. Like Chrysta said the dress is barely clipped when you originally tried it on so while the size 10 may have needed some taking in, it would have been a much better option.

See what the salon will do for you. Stand your ground because she ordered the wrong size for you. Good luck!

Thank you everyone! I’m glad to hear I wasn’t going crazy! I thought the 10 would have been just fine. I’m heading there tonight with the seamstress there, so hopefully I’ll get some answers!

It sounds like an error on their end.

Can you cross reference the measurements of the dress and the measurements she took of you?

I would definitely speak to the store about their error. The sample you have on is barely clipped and it’s likely stretched out. They should go on measurements and not sample gowns. They should also have ordered the larger of the two to be safe. I am curious if your consultant was very new; either way the store did not do you a service in this case and you don’t have enough to lose to drop an entire size nor should you have to!
