Help meeeeee

Elizabeth, on August 3, 2021 at 5:05 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 18
Okay so my seamstress said that my wedding dress is too long, full cathedral length, and is too thick and heavy, 7 layers total, to be able to be bustle. I’m torn between just getting a reception dress bc I absolutely will not be able to dance in the dress with how heavy it would be, or just try to get it bustled. She did say it could ruin the dress if she bustled it. Help meeeeee 1

It is approximately 5ft and all of the layers go the full length.

Your dress is absolutely gorgeous and you look great in it! I would personally just get a reception dress. Especially if you end up selling it later or handing it down, you wouldn't want the dress to be ruined in any way. Best part, you don't even have to spend much on a reception dress. It can literally be whatever you want it to be.

I LOVE this dress! 😍 I agree you should look into another dress for the reception if it's within your budget. Even if you could bustle this dress without damaging you, as you said you still won't be able to dance in it, and that's no fun!

What a beautiful dress! I have to say, it doesn't LOOK too heavy/thick to bustle but she's the expert so I agree with the others - if you love that person's work and trust that she knows what she's talking about, I'd just get a reception dress for dancing!

If you really want to wear this dress all night, I would consider getting a second opinion, as its possible the seamstress just doesn't have the skill/expertise to bustle this dress correctly. However, I think a reception dress could be a great option for dancing all night long. Even if bustled, I think your dress would still have quite a bit of bulk.

My wedding dress was fit-and-flare, two layers with a long train, and each layer had its own row of bustle buttons. When bustled, the dress was easy enough to wear and walk around in, and looked super flattering but felt a bit heavy. I did change for dancing, and wore an unlined silk satin slip dress as a reception dress and it was so much easier to move in. I didn't love it as much as my ceremony dress (and kind of wish I had just worn my ceremony dress all night) but it was a lot more comfortable, just not as beautiful.

I would get a second opinion. I'm almost sure all wedding dressed are designed to be bustled or at least designed in a way they can be bustled. Maybe also reach out to the manufacture to see if they have any local seamstresses in your area who they recommend. Or even a second bridal salon that carries the same manufacture and see what they say about your dress.

I've got a 5 layer Fit & Flare and it's being bustled with 5 points.

    BTW love your dress!

My dress was the same. My seamstress was kinda pricey like almost 400 but she was able to do it. I'll attach some before and after. And if you're in Colorado, I can give you my seamstress info if you want. But she left the back mostly and just added a place where it came up so I could hold it while I walked. Then the front was a little shorter and I was able to dance in mine. I had 8 layers total. Help meeeeee 3

I would get a second opinion, I have an 8 layer dress cathedral length and am getting it bustled no problem.

I would definitely get a second opinion... I've never heard of a dress being too long to bustle! mine definitely had more than 5 layers and my seamstress was able to bustle it no problem. but if you can't bustle it, you should absolutely get a reception dress!

I would get another opinion. I had a long train as well, not sure if it was cathedral length, but it was a ball gown, multi layered long gown. They did a French bustle and it looked gorgeous. French and American bustles are more common now since they have more buttons to distribute the weight.

I really don't have an answer for you, just wanted to chime in and say your dress is BEAUTIFUL!!! And you are glowing Smiley love If it were me, I would probably get a reception dress, just because even with that dress being bustle, it will probably be really heavy & hard to dance in, like others have said. That being said, I've been considering bringing my bridal shower dress for a reception dress, and I just really don't want to take my dress off any earlier than I have to, so maybe it's worth it to you for it to be a little harder to dance??

I've tried this dress on before and it is indeed heavy! However, the seamstress at the bridal shop I went to said adding a bustle would be no problem, so it may just be the expertise of your seamstress. Definitely get a second opinion if you're set on wearing it throughout the night.

Wow you look absolutely stunning in your dress!!! So gorgeous! I would think about getting an alternative reception dress that you can comfortably move around and dance in so that you can really enjoy the reception!

I would look into getting a second opinion. It doesn't look much heavier then mine would be (9-10 layers) and I'm getting a bustle. Is it because of the lace? It's a beautiful dress and if u want to wear it all night u should.
