So we booked a venue which we have to secure all the units for the wedding. It has come to my attention that there is a place right down the road for half the price and everyone wants to stay there. They do not do weddings, and everyone knew up from this would be a little expensive. About 1500 for 5 nights. Directly on the beach of Siesta Key. I am responsible for all the rooms which are not booked and paid for them which is most of them at this point. I don't have funds to pay an extra 20K or so for rooms that are not being used. I also have all my vendors booked, and all set to go.

Should I change venues?? I am very concerned I will get stuck with a large bill at the end. Help!!!!

It sounds like you have them the amount of the hotel stay after they agreed to stay, not before.

Either way, why on earth why would anyone want to stay anywhere for 5 days at a hotel for your wedding, and why would you want them to? Even at like 100.00 a night I can’t imagine staying at a hotel for someone’s wedding for 5 nights. Lordy.

We invited all family and very close friends which we vacation with all the time. It was supposed to be more of a vacation for everyone anyway which is why everyone was ok with it upfront

I'm confused as to how this was not brought up and discussed with the venue before signing a contract. I don't understand why they would make it mandatory that rooms be booked for 5 nights or booked with them period. I have to say this is a strange situation. Does it state that in the contract?

I do live in this area and I would tell you if you can change venues without having to pay a huge penalty I would do so. There are several Resorts including the Holiday Inn Lido Beach the Zota beach resort and they own three others. Four of those five venues they own are on the islands and they all do weddings at the resort location. They should be able to help you. Call their planner- she is wonderful.
