Help! It's a wedding, not a pool party

Jacqueline, on March 30, 2021 at 11:21 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 22

I am getting married end of June in my parents beautiful yard. It is actually my dream wedding location, but I have discovered one tiny problem. They have an in-ground pool. I am looking for creative ideas to not only dress it up, but also to deter anyone from wanting to take a dip. It is in a gate area, but I'd like to go the extra step to make sure it's clear that it's off limits. It's a wedding after all, not a pool party.

I found some cute Pinterest ideas, floating flower arrangements, or event creating a sort of flower and candle barrier, but was hoping someone here might have an even more genius idea.

Also, I should note that we are DIYing more of the florals and decor, and I am crafty so don't hold back!

thanks in advance

I think that floating flower arrangements would be cute! You could always put it on a wedding website that guests aren't allowed to swim in their pool.

Since you said you're DIYing, I really like the idea of a flower barrier or the floating florals! Candles are a little tricky because you don't want someone bumping into one and knocking that wax into the pool!

That being said, I don't think it's necessary to notify guests that the pool is off limits. They should know that it's a wedding, not a pool party, and that swimming isn't part of the event, unless they're told otherwise. The only way I could see someone trying to swim, is if they've had a few too many and go for it!

I think floating flower arrangements would be great. And if your wedding goes past dark, they also have cool floating features that glow

You've gotten some good ideas for decor, but I also wanted to say that I've been to plenty of backyard parties in yards that happened to contain a pool, that weren't pool parties. I literally can't imagine a wedding guest jumping into the pool unless they were told ahead of time to bring a suit and plan to swim.

Are you expecting some of your wedding guests to show up on swimwear? I honestly can’t see this being an issue.

Like others I can't see this really being a problem, but are there kids coming? I could see how that might be an issue, but there's fencing/gates around it right?

If not, you could try and make a wooden cover for it, and if it's sturdy enough I guess that could double as a dance floor.

If you can put some stuff to float around in the pool, it would look really beautiful! The pictures with the floating lanterns and flowers would be a nice touch. And I agree with putting a sign around the pool that there is no swimming allowed Smiley smile

Thanks Everyone for there feedback! Some really great points I hadn't thought of!

I do agree that I don't think it will become much of an issue. most guests have not even been to the property and do not know that there is a pool onsite, (and I will not be sharing the fact). The very few children coming (my nephews) have already been informed that there will be no swimming.

I understand that most of the guests will probably not expect to swim… But nevertheless I view it as more to amp up your decor! The swimming pool could be one of the best features as far as Decour goes if you have a bunch of candles or floating glow balls! If I remember correctly, I think you are a Rhode Island bride?? If so, you are super super lucky that you were able to have it on your parents property! Good luck!

A simple wide ribbon tying the gate closed would work to block access to the pool and to dress up the area but would also block access to the rest of the area inside the gate around the pool. Not sure how the set up is arranged or if this would work for you. If you are concerned about kids wandering in this might be appealing.

Definitely like the idea of floating florals or candles in the pool! Just make sure to check with your parents first, of course.

My bridal shower was in my godmother’s backyard and they decorated with balloons. It was simple but just enough decoration and then you don’t have to worry about anything tipping over in the pool!

I agree with this, I couldn't imagine this being an issue at all for a wedding.

I think the floating flowers will be a good idea.

    Lock the gate?

You could rent a walkable floor to put over the pool, but I imagine those are expensive.

We thought of that too and they are ASTRONOMICAL! Like, more than our tent rental!
The gate will absolutely be closed!

I wouldn't even worry about it. Nobody in their right mind would think of showing up to a wedding with a swimsuit

I know you don't want swimming, but I just wanting to throw out this idea with the pool! I've seen tons of videos and pictures of the wedding party jumping into the pool at the end of the ceremony and it's looked to fun and memorable! It may totally not be your style, or your crowd. It could turn out to be a really neat party ender! Just an idea!
