Help? i dont know where to start

Gelia, on July 16, 2019 at 1:20 AM Posted in Planning 0 11
I just got engaged on July 5, 2019, our wedding date is September 18, 2020. I am having trouble on figuring out a budget and where to start. I have already announced that we are engaged. Now what's next?

Congrats!!! A few big decisions will help you guys: 1) set a budget, 2) estimate a guest list, 3) choose a venue.

For your budget, a good place to start is how much you and your partner can comfortably save between now and your wedding. My hubby & I opened a joint checking account and every month put money into it. We planned on saving for 12 months but we had 15 months before our wedding and went quite a bit over budget so we deposited money for 15 months. But the 12-month plan, plus a cash gift from my mom, was our initial budget.

Congrats. Figure out what you're comfortable with spending. That # might change as you go along with your planning but it's a base and then you get your guest list and venue search and adjust from there or stick to it (up to you)

    Congrats! How exciting!

I would start with the 3 others mentioned, budget (a rough estimate, what you wouldn't mind spending) a starter guest list, and venue searches. You have a good amount of time to save too which is always a good thing!

I found what helped me a lot was doing tons of research on average vendor pricing in the area before setting the budget. I had much more realistic expectations in the end!

Congratulations! It's normal to feel overwhelmed while planning a wedding. For me finding a venue was the biggest thing because once you have the venue you'll know what it looks like and what it takes to decorate and how you'll want it to look. Also, while looking for a venue you can ask what they provide such as catering, set up, bar, etc. Most venues will also be able to provide you with recommended vendors to look into as well. Good luck!

You're welcome! There's so much to do but breaking stuff into chunks helps! Also, check out the tools on this website and the checklists.
