Help! How do i address a deceased person on the invitations that was also married to another person??

Christina , on January 27, 2018 at 9:42 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 11
My fiances dad passed away when he was 13, but he got remarried before hand. How do i address him and his widowed wife (who has now remarried)? And how do I address his mother's fiance (engaged but has not set a date) or do I address him at all even though he has been in the family for 7 years??

If you are inviting FH stepmother, you invite her and her husband by their names. I would not mention the deceased father. Mother's fiance should be invited on his own, just send him an invite.

I think you are asking about wording for the invitations themselves, my apologies if I'm misunderstanding. My dad passed away a long time ago and we're paying for the whole thing ourselves so I'm just using our names on the invite. Seems way easier to me to do it that way. But I think this acticle covers part of your situation maybe just sub in husband to be or fiance for his mom's fiance, it all depends on who is hosting. I also like the simplicity of "Together with their families..."

Mention only the alive people. I am not sure I am reading this right, but never address dead people on an invite. I am sorry your fiance's dad is deceased, but think about it: How are you going to invite a dead person to a wedding?

Given how complicated things are and the number of people you are wanting to acknowledge on your invitation, I think the best route would be to say "Together with their families..."

Yeah I am not even mentioning the families part. Ours say "you are invited to celebrate the marriage of" I just think it's simpler and a little more modern.

I just want to say I'm SO GLAD I'm not the only one who thought you were trying to invite someone who is deceased.. but to answer correctly, I agree with PP in saying "together with their families.." may be best for you.

I thought that too!! Makes more sense now! I did receive an invitation once that read: "The late Mr. Howard Anderson and Mrs. Joanne Anderson invite you to the wedding of their daughter Anna"

I was like, huh? I wonder why no one stopped them/told them this was wrong.

Yep, together with their families covers a lot!
