Help! How did you stop your gift deliveries while you were on the honeymoon???

Stephanie, on May 15, 2019 at 2:20 PM Posted in Planning 0 8

23 days to go (AH) and still so much to do! And yet it JUST dawned on me that my fiancé and I will be out of town for almost 2 weeks for the wedding (we live in San Diego but are getting married back home in Philly near our families) and then immediate honeymoon, and no one will be at our house to retrieve any gifts from our registries that are purchased and/or delivered during that time.

Has anyone had this experience or looked into this? I have no idea what to do! I've contacted Macy's and Bed Bath & Beyond, and they both do not have the ability to hold any items once they are purchased (which, quite frankly, kind of blows my mind). Any advice for a stressed out bride is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

(also, we're registered at Macy's, Bed Bath & Beyond, and Zola, if that is helpful information at all)

I believe Zola will hold the gifts, not sure if you've figured that out!

Is it possible for you to change the delivery address to a relative's house or something, so while you're gone it'll go to them?

I would call the post office. You can stop mail service for a specific amount of time. However, I have no idea what you would do for packages that are sent using other services like UPS, Fedex, etc. Do you have a friend you could ask to house sit? They could just bring in your mail daily and water plants.

I thought Zola had that option, but I honestly was so frustrated after talking to the other two that I didn't even look yet lol. We don't have any close relatives, it would have to be to someone on the other side of the country and that just seems like such a hassle because the items will need to be shipped back again to our home.

Yeah I haven't used Zola but I have read from people on here that they will hold the deliveries, so definitely check with them!

Do you have a neighbor who would be willing to check for packages/bring them in while you're away??

I'm not sure what service will be delivering but that's a good idea to call to stop mail service, thanks! We do have a few friends we could ask to house sit, I just hate burdening people (even though I'm sure it is not much of a burden). I guess that could be my last resort if we can't figure it out another way.

I have the Usps, fedex, and ups apps on my phone. On each one you can see what deliveries are on their way to you and it has the option to hold the deliveries or deliver on a different day. I did this because we traveled so much last summer and had so many gifts showing up at our house weekly.

This is an issue to sort with the delivery companies. A couple of them even have apps where you can control how things are delivered. I live in a city, so, packages are RARELY left on the doorstep— instead, we get “sorry we missed you” slips indicating they’ll either attempt delivery at another time, or take the package back and hold it at their storage facility...at which point we have to travel to the facility with the slip and ID to retrieve it. You should be able to affect settings with most these companies to hold packages for pickup at their facilities, as well as a “do not leave if no one is home” ...alternatively, if you had a trusted neighbor, you could ask them to collect your mail for you, but I certainly can see the inconvenience with that

If we're going to be closed at work, we call UPS, FedEx, and USPS and ask them to hold our stuff til we return.
