Help! Cannot find a nice wedding venue that allows you to bring your own food

Doris, on January 8, 2016 at 4:28 PM Posted in Planning 0 74

I am planning a large wedding;300-350 people. My family and fiance refuse to cut the guest list down. I cannot afford a lot of the catering packages ($75-150 dollars a plate). I'm looking to bring an outside caterer who can caterer to my guest. The problem I am running into is that most of these venues are not that nice. I'd really like a beautiful wedding venue/ reception. I do not want it just to be some hall. I am open to venues in Dallas, Chicago, and Houston.

***I am not asking to cook the food myself. There are tons of outside caterers that are much more affordable than 75-150 dollars a plate. Also, my wedding budget is 50,000 dollars for everything. I'm looking for helpful advice!!!

Why would you refuse to cut a guest list you can't afford to host?

How do you plan to provide safe and prepared food for that many people?

Are you looking at venues like hotels that have their own food? That makes sense they wouldn't allow outside food.

I'm not going to get into self-catering. I don't think I can handle it today.

You really think that many people are open to travel to houston, dallas, or chicago? Where do you live?

There is a reason you can't find a place that will let you bring in food for 300+ people. It's not safe. Have a wedding you can afford.

Are you wanting to bring in a caterer other than the ones on the venue's approved list? Or are you wanting to self cater for 300 people?

I do not plan to self cater my event. I plan to bring an outside caterer that does not cost as much.

You must be joking. No one would self cater a 300 person wedding. How are you planning on doing this?

Well, you said you cannot afford a catered event, so that is why people are assuming you want to self-cater.

    You just contradicted yourself....

" I cannot afford to have a catered event for this many guest therefore I am hoping to find a venue where you can bring your own food. "

You can't afford catering but you want a cheaper caterer. Huh? Honestly outside catering is sometimes more expensive as you have to rent all the dishes, food warmers sometimes even the ovens. I would say go back to the drawing board with your FH and CUT THE LIST.

@Doris while I do think you should cut your guest list, I would recommend "non-traditional" wedding venues such as museums, public parks, theaters etc. Don't look at traditional catering halls and hotels.

ETA: I brought in a caterer (professional of course) and my wedding was at an art gallery. It did save me a fair amount of money.

As a guest, I would much rather be cut from the guest list of someone's wedding so they could serve quality food to their other guests than attend a giant wedding with low quality food.

    What jessi said.

But, if a venue has an on-site caterer there is no way they would let you bring in someone else. If you owned a restaurant and someone reserved the whole place, and then came in and ate sandwiches from some other restaurant, would you be upset?

Cut down your guest list. Who is paying for the wedding?

Most places that would allow it may charge a fee for using outside vendors. For the amount of people that you are planning, I doubt you will have many affordable options.

The venues I found that let you bring in a caterer ended up being more expensive in the end. Most of them charge more for renting because they are not making money off food/drinks and you still have to pay a caterer anyway. Your best bet would be a public park or community center.

    Here are the facts.

Everyone can cut their guest list. That is just fiction that you tell yourself, that you can't.

Catering is not necessarily less expensive. You still need staff and tableware.

Venues who have on site caterers will not let you bring in anything else besides possibly kosher or Indian food.

Back to the drawing board Doris. This isn't happening.

Tell them your robot hosting x number of people and they need to give you the list of who they want.

    Period.
