Heirloom rings and soldering?!?

Chelsea, on February 4, 2021 at 12:56 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 6
Hi! So my fiancé proposed with his great grandmothers heirloom ring. Over 100 years old. I love it so much and it’s uniqueness! I recently got it checked out and the prongs tightened (stone was wiggly) and picked out my band! The jeweler mentioned option of soldering which I’m not sure about since it’s such a old ring and has been passed down through his family, and we want to continue that. I just don’t know how I feel about soldering the rings together because I know once you do it it’s not a good idea to reverse. But I also don’t want my e ring to get damaged by my band sliding around. So wondering what other people with heirloom e rings do regarding soldering? Attaching pic of my e ring and new band! Which will be made in platinum this was just a picture of the ring I tried on in the store. The original band which my future SIL has had hearts around the band so I saw this one and thought it would go perfectly since I don’t have original band that went with itHeirloom rings and soldering?!? 1

I would avoid soldering it. Have you considered a simple band? The ring is beautiful and intricate I don’t think it needs much more.

Beautiful e-ring. I would not solder it to your band.

Very pretty and unique ring! I agree with the first post, maybe go with a simple band since there is already a lot of detail in the ring.

The heart band is also nice, and it seems like stackable type rings are in right now. So that could also work together, but not solder it together.

Also this is the original band just for reference. Was trying to go for something similar but thanks for feed back. Definitely not going to solder together because I want to be able to continue passing the ring down and keep its integrity. Thanks ❤️Heirloom rings and soldering?!? 3

My fiance purposed to me with his grandmothers ring. She already had her wedding band soldered to the engagement ring. I'm getting a new wedding band but do to work reasons will not be soldering them together. My job has a strict policy on jewelry. We are only allowed to wear one plain wedding band and that's all. No stones of any kind. But if I was able to wear my ring I'd definitely get them soldered together, I think it a great option. If the jeweler is skilled enough they will know how to reverse it without ruining the ring. When I had my engagement ring resized they had to separate the two rings and they asked if I wanted them soldered together again I said yes, when I got my ring back I couldn't tell the difference.
