Heels for ceremony, flats for reception, what do I do with my dress?

kimbo, on June 14, 2017 at 3:00 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 10

I have a sheath-style no-train dress. I had planned on wearing heels for the ceremony, but feel like I wouldn't be comfortable in them all night. But if I then switch to flats, my dress will be too long and I will trip over the hem of my dress.

I'm having a hard time finding info on what some of my options are. Can someone with better goggle power help me out? Anyone know of links, images, or search terms I can try?

I had wedge flip flops for the reception that kept my dress off the floor. It rained, and my hem was still pretty pristine by the end of the night.

I'm wanting to switch from my heels into some type of wedge/thick sole Sandel. Thinking of trying to find something plain from amazon or even Payless and "bedazzle" them myself.

Wedge flip flops could work, but also could be dangerous. I have weak ankles and risk rolling them being that high without ankle support... But that is a good idea if I can find matching height flip flops!

@kimbo, I think the key is to try them on and walk a bit ahead of time. I also have weak ankles post ankle surgery, but the ones I got were stable.

@tjacob2014 true. I've had wedge sandals before that I ended up not being able to wear. They had the really thin, kind of like spaghetti strap thin, straps that just didn't hold my feet very securely.

This may help: https://www.theknot.com/content/hem-wedding-dress-for-heels-and-flats. I personally am wearing the same shoes to both the ceremony and reception (flats). No one is going to even see my feet anyways, so I kept it simple and comfortable.

My shoes came off during the last 90 minutes of my reception. I just carried my dress all night.

TBH, I don't even really like flats that much. My feet are quite sweaty and flats tend to... uh... not breathe well enough. I'm picky with shoes. I think of them as feet jail, and socks are feet straight-jackets.

I get to try my dress on with the shoes Saturday, but my fitting isn't until July. I have the heels and flats, so I can see how they look before having to make a final decision!
