Heel Protectors for Grass?

Kari, on December 28, 2019 at 5:23 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 5

Has anyone successfully used "heel protectors" for wearing skinny heels on grass? Our ceremony is outdoors and I haven't been able to find a block heel or wedge that I like that is the correct height for my dress. I need about a 1.5" heel and found some cute kitten heels, but I'm wondering if heel protectors would work or if I should just keep searching for thicker short heel to wear with my dress.

I was thinking of this product:

Invest in the Solemates brand heel protectors. I wore the Solemates brand for my bridal portraits (outside on grass), ceremony (more stone and grass) and throughout the reception with no problems. I think they actually helped with comfort as well a bit because they spread the weight on the heel out a tiny bit. The Solemate brand clicks in pretty snuggly on the heel. I was worried the brand you linked would be a you-get-what-you-pay-for situation and pop off the heel too easily.

My mom wore some at my wedding and they worked great! I got married outside and she wore tall stiletto heels and had no problem. She ordered hers on amazon. I am not 100% sure of the brand.

Thanks so much! I definitely wasn't set on a specific brand or anything, just wondering if that concept helped much because even with the extra surface area they are still smaller than block heels.

The one think I liked about the ones I linked was that all of the heel cups had the same bottom surface area (30mm diameter). The Solemates look like the size varies a bit depending on how thick the heel is, and ranges from about 18mm for the narrow to 25mm for the wide, based on measurements I made from their sample photo when viewed at true resolution in Photoshop. The block heels I have are around 40-45mm in diameter by comparison.

I wasn't sure how much surface area I'd need to actually have the affect of not sinking into grass or tripping on gravel, but it's super helpful to know the Solemates worked for you. Do you remember if you used the narrow, classic, or wide size? And did they cause any damage to your heels at all?

Thanks for the feedback! Our ceremony is on grass, so I absolutely need a solution that works for grass. Glad to know they worked for your mom.

I used the classic. The different sizes are for different size heel stems (some are skinnier than others). The Solemates were super snug in my heel, so no popping off. No damage to the heel. I also got a sticker for the bottom of the toe area to help with grip and less slipping on the grass. Just walk slowly. And when in doubt, put more weight on your toes than your heel. You’ll only be in the grass a short time. 😊
