Heel height help?

FutureMrsO, on June 21, 2016 at 3:16 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 17

I'm going to order my shoes soon but I'm unsure on the height I should get. I'm only 5'1 and FH is 5'9 ish so I was thinking 4.5/5 inch heels but I don't want my feet to die (I usually wear sneakers or wedges). I could order a 3/3.5" heel but I'm unsure how high/low that really is and when I Google it shows different heights all together and I never know which is which. Any input?

I think it depends on if there is a platform or not. I believe that a normal 5 inch heel makes you about 3 inches taller.

I will be wearing 4 1/2-5 inch heel for the ceremony and pictures because FH is more then a foot taller then me. Then I'm switching to flip flops for the reception. You could always do that so you can have more comfort when it's time to dance!

Wear what you'll be comfortable in. You don't want to spend your day miserable because your feet hurt. If 4-5 inch heels are comfy for you, great, I'm jealous. Lots of women wear other shoes. There are a ton of "show me your shoes" threads here so search and get some ideas.

If you can walk in them, go for it.

But to play devil's advocate here, I wore 3inch heels for my ceremony and then went to flats for dancing, and I honestly regret just not wearing flats. People kept stepping on my dress all night because without the heels, it was too long.

Sooooo this was my dress by the end of the night. Not cute. :/.

If you are not used to wearing heels, then you shouldn't wear them. Go into a store and try on some shoes, walk around a bit and wear what you're comfortable in.

Of course, once you decide, you should wear them around the house before the wedding to break them in.

Order a bunch from Zappos and try them on with your dress. Looking at pictures isn't going to help much. I ordered or tried on ~30 pairs of shoes before I found something that was cute and that I could walk in.

Unless you wear 5 in heels ALOT you should not wear them on your wedding day. My heels are 3 1/2 inches and that is the highest I ever wear. You should try walking around in them for an hour before you make a final decision.

You have lots of time before you have to decide, I'd give a few heights a try. Order some cheap ones or borrow from friends and see what makes you feel good. But of course there is nothing wrong with wearing flats or wedges - in fact if you'll be outside for any part of the day that might be a great choice! I am 5'2'' and love wearing 5 inch heels to go out but opted for 3s for my wedding to make sure I'd be comfortable all day, dancing, walking down a long isle, taking outdoor photos, going up and down lots of stairs... there really is a lot of walking involved in being a bride. You can get cute styles in any height.

Please, please wear shoes that you are comfortable in! Even with the lower heels, you may want comfortable shoes to change into for the reception if you are not used to wearing heels.

Also, you have way too many stars to have a generic avatar still!! Yes, I am scolding you lol. Please change your avatar to something other than the rings! This is not the same as the background pic on your app. It will help you get more responses to your posts because the generic avatars are associated with spam/trolls and it makes the threads easier to read. I would highly recommend wearing a shoe you'll be comfortable in, for the whole time! If you start in a heel and switch to a flat, you run the risk of your dress being too long in a flat! If you wear flats the whole time, you'll be comfortable and you won't have to worry about switching to a different shoe and not having your dress fit the same, length wise! Plus, no one will see your shoes, except for you! I wore these, and no one ever even knew until the pictures...hehe!

I think if you're not used to wearing heels at all, you will find that 4.5-5" heels are really high and uncomfortable. I opted for 3" heels. Not because I don't wear heels often, but because 3 inches was a comfortable height for the arch of my foot.

By all means, go to a shoe store and try on a variety of heel heights to find what is comfortable for you.

Shit, I don't wear heels and 3" is too high for me! Stop obsessing over the height difference and just find shoes that you will be comfortable in.

Your height difference isn't that much. H is 6'6 and I'm 5'8. I wore 2 inch heels and it wasn't a big deal. It's more important that you wear shoes you can comfortably walk in. Definitely get a few different pairs and try them on with your dress. Remember to take into account the length of your dress -- most dresses can be easily shortened, but it's much harder to significantly add length, so make sure your shoes don't make your dress too short. Also remember that if you're planning to change into shorter heels or flats, and you hem your dress for your highest heels, the dress will be too short for part of the night. It's a much better idea to find shoes you're comfortable enough in and just wear them the whole night.

I agree with PPs you should wear what you are comfortable in. You don't want to look like a baby calf trying to walk down the aisle. Also, as others have said, a high heel with a platform or wedge will make it a bit easier. 3" is a pretty good sized heel, 4-5" is huge unless there is a platform on the front. Btw I'm 5'1" as well and FH is 6'1" so I got a 4" heel, but I wear big heels all the time.

Thank you all, I do wear heels sometimes but I haven't in a long time. I'm thinking of wearing 3" heels because they won't be too high and should be more comfortable than my 5" heels I used to wear. I'm also debating bringing my wedges which are around the same height just in case.

I have worn some pretty high heels in the past. But in recent years I usually don't wear any heel higher than a couple inches. My FH is almost 6' and I'm only 4'11.5" (the 0.5" is important!), and I decided comfort was more important for the wedding (despite the fact that I will likely look pretty short haha).

My heels that I got are 3.35" high. They have memory foam insoles that make them very comfortable Smiley smile

I'm 4'11" and wore flat, dressy sandals. No one sees your feet if your dress is long, mine was and no one saw my shoes but me and my photog when she took pictures of them. I don't do heels, so flat shoes were an absolute must for me.
