Heel height for hem importance?

Kelly, on June 12, 2022 at 8:45 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 6
I found my dream dress as my first dress I tried! Finding the dress was extremely serendipitous and unplanned, and my alterations appointment is in a few days. The problem is, I didn't pack heels when I traveled here for part of the planning. I really like a comfortable pair of 2 inch heels I own, but also love a 2.5 inch heel I found online, so I will choose heels between the 2 to 3 inch height. Can the hem be made to accommodate that inch difference?
(I can shop my mom's heels for the fitting appointment, so I will have plenty of shoes to choose from)

Congratulations on finding your dream dress Kelly! I’m pretty sure they’ll be able to accommodate the inch difference. I did the same thing for my MOH dress and I didn’t wear heels. I just asked them not to take off so much because of the heels.

Yes! I believe seamstress start with the heel height in mind. Should be an easy fix.

The hem should be altered to whatever you will be wearing at the reception. Some brides change from tall heels to flats and that makes the dress drag so that you and guests trip on it. If you decide you want flats for the reception, you wear those to the alterations appointments and the gap between the hem and the floor is really not noticeable when done correctly. Altering a hem is basic step for all seamstresses.

IBook my heels with me during my alterations bc they hemmed my dress according to the shoes that I was wearing with my dress. They probably could alterations without your shoes. Just let them know what type of shoes you are wearing, your plans for how you want to look and take it from there

It depends on where you want the dress to fall. You could have it hemmed floor length with the shorter heels so that it will fall at ankle length on the higher heels. Heels affect your posture though, so you definitely want to wear a similar pair for your fitting.

I'd just wear something that's the same height as the shoes you're planning to wear. Usually the whole point of bringing your wedding shoes to alterations appointments is just to get the height right, so unless your intended shoes have some REALLY out there design where something would be sticking out and would need to be accommodated, you're probably fine.
