My fiancé and I have booked our wedding in an outdoor venue for July 3, 2014 in Poughkeepsie, NY. The venue is absolutely gorgeous and has everything we want. HOWEVER, it has been extremelyyyy hot (95 degrees) these passed few weeks, and I'm kind of freaking out! I've heard that there are air conditioners for outdoors, but they can cost around $5000 . I really want our guests to enjoy themselves, so I'll spend the extra if I reallyyyy have to (although I prefer not to). Any other ideas, suggestions, tips?! Has anyone been to an outdoor wedding in the Hudson Valley area that can tell me what it was like?! Help!

Im from Georgia, the good ol South where our temperatures climb every year and our summers increase every year...I heard of a wedding where it was done outside but in a shaded area...with trees, and she had her ceremony around 10 am when it was still bearable. You could rent a tent or pavilion and have a fan unit in tent area...oh and make sure you supply your guests with bottles of cold water and fans...water can reduce some of the most horrible heatwaves...

@rev. Ann fuller- thanks for the advice! The blog is very insightful Smiley smile

    1. I have shade-reception is under a tent

    2. Wedding is open bar, including all non-alch and non-caff drinks

    3. Tent has ceiling fans and two in industrial fans

    4. The main lobby is indoors, and the bathrooms are as well, so there are air conditioned placed for guests to go.

So I'm feeling more positive abt my whole situation. Thanks!

Still wondering though, if renting outdoor a/c units (fees: around $5000$ is worth it...

On July 3 it wasn't ridiculously hot. Summer just officially starts on June 21. It's gotten steamy now in mid-July. I wouldn't overly worry about next year.

Outdoor weddings are always a crap shoot. There is no controlling the weather.
