Health over everything.

Nicole, on March 20, 2020 at 11:59 AM Posted in Community Conversations 1 13
I had to postpone my wedding that was scheduled for April 18th. I understand the frustration and emotions, I really do but anyone who has a wedding in April needs to reschedule. Depending on the state you live in, there may now be a ban about coming together with more than 5 people. We have to think about our health, the health of our guests and the health of our communities. Where I live, the people testing positive is doubling in numbers overnight and more and more people need to stay home. This is not going to go away fast enough if people still hold functions where people could get sick. Just because you don't have symptoms doesn't mean you don't have it. There are many with immune systems who cannot handle this. Please reschedule. I know it is hard because I am doing it as well, but work with vendors and create a new plan and dream. We must work together to get through this difficult time.

I totally agree! I work in the public health field and have a best friend who works in the hospital and I swear it is my daily worry that I bring something home to my loved ones or just a simple bystander at the grocery store. We have to practice social distancing, so we can slow that this spread. If I didn't have to be at work, I would be in the house.

I completely wholeheartedly agree with you. We had to postpone our May 3 wedding. I was upset, cried, and then got over it. We’re not cancelling just postponing to June 28, and if it doesn’t happen then, we’ll just try to get out of the contract (even if we loose some money). The health of my family and friends matter more than a wedding, and I would feel terrible if my wedding was the reason someone got sick. I realize many people can’t afford to postpone/cancel but saying “I don’t care if many people don’t show up we’re still hold a party” is just a little tone deaf. I hope this doesn’t sound harsh, I feel really really bad for all the couples going through this uncharted situation but I just think there are more important things in life than a wedding party and other ways to celebrate your love.

Thank you for posting this. I feel like so many just aren't getting that we need to stay away from each other. Will your special day really be that special if it spread disease to all your loved ones?

We can no longer even get a marriage license in most of California, so while my wedding isn't until May 15, I'm coming to terms with the reality that not only will my wedding not happen that day, a private ceremony can't happen that day either. It really sucks. Most of our vendors are still "playing it by ear" so we don't know if we can reschedule or not, but I know in my heart it's the right thing to do. I get the next few months of isolation with my partner and I know we'll come out of this stronger than before, and that piece of paper (and our thousands of dollars) doesn't matter in the big scheme of things as long as we have each other.

Cancelled my April 18th wedding yesterday! It was an emotional day for me, but I know it’s for the best for EVERYONE involved! I would never be okay if someone got sick from attending my wedding!
