Headpiece, tiara, or comb for the veil?

SoontoBeMrsBatdorf, on September 27, 2015 at 11:41 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 13

So I decided I wanted to wear my mom's veil and it goes perfectly with my dress. It had one of those older style hats sewn onto it. My late grandmother made this veil for her (so it's extra sentimental to me) and at the time I guess that's what they wore. I got permission from my mom to have the hat removed because it doesn't look right on me nor does it fit my head. My MIL sews so she has removed the hat and is now asking if I'm sure I want a comb attached to it or do I want it attached to like a tiara or headband of some sort. I didn't even realize there would be an option so my question is what do you all think? I have no idea on this one...

How are you styling your hair? I would figure out that and attach the veil to whatever fits with your hair the best.

You just have to go with what you think will look good on you and how you're planning to do your hair.

How long is the veil / what does your dress look like? It definitely depends!

The veil is longer than my train and has lace detail on the outside of it that my gram had sewn on it. I don't have a picture of the veil and its not with me right now but hopefully this will give an idea

I'm hoping my hair will be long enough by the wedding to do this with my hair

Since there is so much going on with the dress, which is beautiful on you by the way, I would go simple with a headpiece. Either just a comb or a simple barrette. I don't think a headband would fit that hairstyle.

If you're wearing any sort of headpiece (like a decorative comb or tiara or something) I would just attach the veil to a simple, plastic comb. If you take the veil off later, you'll probably want to keep the hairpiece in or at least have that option.

Danielle - I love the sentimental value and story behind your veil! I would go with a simple comb. Your dress has a lot of beautiful detail, so I think something simple would be great!

I'm doing the same thing. I'm using my mom's veil which is a cathedral length. She had a Juliet cap attached to the veil. My MOH does a ton of sewing, and she detached the veil from the cap and deconstructed the cap to make a border for the veil since the ends were unfinished. She then attached it to a comb. My thought process was that I could take the comb out after the ceremony, and if I decided to wear a headpiece that could be separate and left in for the reception.

I would say just a comb. there is enough going on with an ornate hairstyle and your dress. i think a tiara or other fancy headpiece would take away from everything.

Thanks girls! A comb it is! I do plan on taking it off after the ceremony so it won't get torn and I won't have to carry it the whole time. My next question is do you think I should get a small veil to wear for the reception or some type of headpiece or will my hair be enough?
