Head Table Seating

Boston Kate, on April 7, 2015 at 2:29 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 2

I am having a head table with the bridesmaids and groomsmen and their SO's. So: bride, groom, MOH husband, bridesmaid husband, BM wife, GM wife. 10 people total.

My question is, is there a specific way that we should be seated? I tried looking it up, but most places said that the BM should sit next to the bride and the MOH next to the groom. This seems silly to me. Shouldn't the MOH sit next to the bride? I know that makes it so it's not boy-girl-boy-girl...

I was originally just trying to figure out if it mattered what side of the table was for the groom and which side for the bride (should the bride be on the groom's left or right). But now I'm confused.

All searches I did on this site just came up with debates about head tables vs sweetheart tables, so I figured I'd just ask. What is everyone else with a head table doing? And does it matter, etiquette-wise?

We're going to do MOH next to me, Best Man next to FH....like you said, anything other sounds stupid. Seating will also be shifted a bit to have the two married couples that are standing up sit next to each other...

Formal fancy etiquette says that your FH sits at the head of the table and the most highly honored lady sits to his right. Since it's a wedding not a dinner party, you sit to his left, and to your left is the most highly honored guy.

However, since it's your wedding and most people don't live in a world that is strictly governed by Miss Manners, sit people wherever you like! Want to sit next to your MoH? Do it! You're all friends anyway!

We're probably going to have a family table instead of a head table, with just me and FH and our parents.
