Hay Bale Seating

Kelley, on January 6, 2020 at 7:37 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 6
I’ve already heard all the reasons I SHOULDN’T use hay bales for ceremony seating and now I’m looking for anyone who has used them or has been a guest and sat on them, and had a good experience.

I’ve been a guest that has sat on them and it was far from a good experience. It sticks you in the legs and butt and irritated my exposed skin since I was wearing a knee length dress.

Thank you for replying! Were the bales covered with anything?

I went to a family friends wedding about two years ago and they had hay bales which were super cute. They covered them with old quilts and flannel blankets to make them softer to sit on. I thought they were super cute. I wanted them for our outdoor wedding but our venue didn’t allow it. If you want hay bales go for it girl!

My cousin used them at his wedding and they covered them with blankets. They also had a few chairs set up for older guests who might have trouble sitting without back support. If that’s the look you are going for do it!!

This is obviously a know your crowd thing. We’ve never attended a wedding with hay bale seating but hubby’s allergies are bad enough that if we didn’t know beforehand so he could take something we’d have to leave.

Typically it's straw, not hay. Hay causes more allergic reactions & costs more.

I have sat on them as a guest. They had thick blankets covering them and the ceremony was around 10 minutes long so it was fine. I'm not a huge fan of them, they get super messy & are hard to set up. But as long as they are covered, they are comfortable for short times.
