Hawaii - Maui or Kauai?

Danielle, on October 6, 2016 at 1:30 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 33

Hey guys! So we're starting to plan our honeymoon. We've been researching and finding that a lot of people recommend Maui and Kauai for honeymoons. Most people said Kauai was more quiet and secluded and Maui had a bit more to do. We've found Kauai hotels to be a little cheaper though which is kind of enticing! We'll be going for about 7 days and would want to mainly lay on the beach but also snorkel, maybe do a luau, a hike or other activity, try out some restaurants, maybe hit a bar one night, shop one day...that kind of thing. Mainly chill and relax but would still like to have things to do! For those of you that have been to one or both islands what would you recommend? Would we get bored at Kauai? Would you recommend doing both islands in only 7 days? What cities did you stay in? Any hotel or activity recommendations? Thanks!!

I went to Kauai for 10 days with my family a couple years ago. There's so much to do and see you will not get bored! It is definitely more relaxed than the other islands but it is absolutely amazing!!! I told my FH I HAVE to go back for the honeymoon. I miss it so much, every single day. It's a vacation you will never forget!!!

I recommend Princevillle Ranch adventures. You can zip line, ride horses, go four wheeling....it was awesome

I think it was called Kee beach -- really good beach to snorkel!

Then they have a strip of shops and restaurants down the main road

We're going to Kauai. We're looking forward to hiking and spending time outside so that's my vote!

I just came home from my honeymoon in Hawaii. We did the Big Island and Maui, but considered Kauai as well. It depends on what you're looking for, a friend of mine did Kauai and skipped Maui and later said they regretted it because it was a little TOO quiet and underdeveloped in parts, but I've heard great things from others too. Ultimately I don't think you can go wrong!

I absolutely LOVED Maui. There was so much to do, a huge mix of everything from poolside relaxing, beach time, snorkeling, surfing, hiking, restuarants, and night life. It had everything, and I wish I was back there right now = (

I'd say Maui! I just went there for a friend's wedding/vacation and engagement of my own. There is so much to do there! The pineapple tour is wonderful and you get to eat pineapple right there. Also check out the distilery if you like that. Road to Hana was an amazing experience and something definitely to check out! So beautiful. My friends that got married there did a lot of snorkeling, luau, did a helicopter ride and so much more! There's some great restaurants too!

Kauai is wild and lush and less touristy. There are hikes and bike rides and gorgeous beaches. I've been to both several times but if it's up to me I always pick Kauai.

Maui! It is beyond beautiful, so many things to do. Everything you listed above what you like to do on your honeymoon, you can do in Maui. I recommend staying at the Sheraton.

Kauaii is my personal preference Smiley smile less touristy, less elderly people coming from cruises, and it's got more lush landscape. We have been to Maui, but are going to Kauaii for our honeymoon!

ETA: our resort is Sheraton Kauaii, it's right on Poipu Beach (which is on the Southern tip of the island) and there are tons of restaurants/bars nearby. It's gorgeous!!

Ok, so I have never been to either, but FH's parents are taking us and his sister (and her bf) to Maui over Christmas this year. And seeing all the raving reviews of Maui is making me even more excited! haha so that helps in no way at all I'm sure, but it really sounds like you cant go wrong either way by what all the PP have said. Good luck!

Kauai has amazing hiking and beautiful bays. Maui is really touristy but has more restaurants and nightlife. My favorite is the Big Island. Mountains, volcanos, dry side, wet side, great diving and snorkeling. Kona has some nightlife. There was a great cultural reservation center outside Kona as well.

Thanks so much everyone for the advice! So the Sheraton in Kauai is good! For those who went to Maui what hotel did you stay at?

On Maui, there are tons of hotels in Wailea - we stayed there, and they are in a great location.

There are so many great things to do in Maui and Kauai. If you are interested in local culture, there are a lot of farmer's markets, food truck festivals, and wineries on both islands. It's a great destination!

I prefer Maui but you really cannot go wrong! If you do go to Kauai make sure to go to the sunny side of the island, Poipu.
