Hawaii Honeymoon

Suzie, on October 29, 2019 at 8:38 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 28

I have always dreamed of honeymooning in Hawaii, but upon quick look, it sounds like it’s going to be super expensive! We spoke to a travel agent who said a honeymoon-grade hotel for a week would cost us about $2,500. Yikes! Then add food, entertainment, etc... Did anyone honeymoon in Hawaii that is willing to share how much you spent total? I’m slightly devastated at the thought of not being able to go. It is a 13+ hour travel each way for us (East coast), which gives me anxiety, but it seems like the ultimate honeymooning adventure! My second choice was the Bahamas, but after the hurricane that hit recently I’m guessing that is out. We were also told that for what we would spend on a Hawaii hotel, we could do an all inclusive elsewhere. Any advice/input would be appreciated!

We wanted to do Hawaii too and just the price of parking at the hotels we were looking at ($100/day) had me saying “no, no, no!” We decided to book a cruise instead, so Hawaii is still on the bucket list!

It’s insane how expensive it is. FH has been before, but I never have. He said it’s paradise, which just makes me want it more!! Lol. Maybe we’ll go for our five year anniversary down the line... We cruised to Bermuda last summer, which was beautiful beyond words! I was sick two of the seven days though, so I’m thinking not for us for the honeymoon. It sure was a fun vacation though!!

We were going to honeymoon in Hawaii too and yes, it definitely started to add up. Instead we're doing an all inclusive honeymoon with Sandals Resorts. We're going to St. Lucia for a week. I'm sure you can get a room for about the same price and that's all food and entertainment already included.

We are doing a destination wedding in Hawaii, and having our very short honeymoon right after. We've been here before, and it really depends which island you go to. But yes, it is such a paradise place, and every island is different! I hope you get to go someday!

I think we may end up going that route, but I have to look into which island, and potential weather risks. Mid October I believe is still hurricane season. It would be nice to not have to worry about anything, we loved the all inclusive aspect of cruising, so seems it would be great as a regular vacation! Thanks for the tip!

I’ve been to Hawaii(Maui and Kauai). I live on the east coast too. It’s beautiful there and if you have your heart set on it, then I say go for it.

for the money and travel time, I love Aruba, St. Lucia, Barbados and St. Maarten(dutch side).

Not a problem. Our wedding is in August and that's hurricane season for St. Lucia so we actually booked a whole 6 months after our wedding. Due to that, we will be doing a mini-moon weekend at Disneyland. Works out great considering our venue is about 30 mins away lol

Have you thought about looking into Air bnb? Maybe a little outside the box but you could luck into finding something significantly cheaper than a hotel.

My FH and I will be doing our honeymoon in Hawaii over new years! We tried to keep the price down as much as possible. These are some things we did/are doing:

    1) For our flights, those we paid with miles (we had a good amount saved up)

    2) We will be doing 2 weeks in Oahu. We really wanted to stay at Turtle Bay, but it would have been like $7,000 (which is not in our budget....) SOOOOOO we decided to do an airbnb for the first week ($817 and ON the beach) then Turtle Bay for the second week ($2,100).

    3) We will have a kitchen setup in our airbnb and can make our meals so we don't spend a lot on food.

We’re doing a Hawaii cruise 🚢!! That way food and room is all in one, plus we get to see different islands along the way. It cost about 3k with the cruise liner.

Hawaii was our first choice as well until I too realized how expensive it was. They didn't have any all inclusive Resorts. A travel agent suggested the Caribbean because it does have quite a few all inclusive Resorts. We chose Sandals, they have resorts scattered throughout the Caribbean, some more intimate and quiet which is what we were looking for and some more busy with a night life. We ultimately decided to get married and honeymoon there for 7 days. Our total for a butler suite, free wedding, and all meals/drinks, water sports plus our sons room came to about $12.000. They include a lot and we wont have to leave the resort unless we choose to do excursions. We're flying in on a Wednesday, getting married on Friday and flying out the following Wednesday. Free shuttle from airport to resort and back. And we're paying monthly payments to have it paid off before the wedding. Now, there are different options that are less expensive...look into it.

We went to Hawaii for 7 nights (3 nights in Maui and 4 nights in Oahu). Total, we spent around $8,000 but we splurged on hotels in Oahu, excursions, and meals. I would just price it out yourself and not use a travel agent. See what the best flights & hotels you can find, then add in meal & other costs.

We rented a condo from vrbo when we went to Maui. It was perfect. Right on the beach, had all the beach necessities like chairs and towels, and was a lot bigger than any hotel room. More importantly it was much cheaper than a hotel. I’m not really sure what a “honeymoon grade” is, as I’ve never heard of such a thing. Honestly it sounds like they’re trying to rip you off. It doesn’t matter where you stay, it will be amazing. Fly out and back mid-week because it’ll be cheaper. You can get cheap car rentals if you look around. Yes, it’s an expensive trip but is totally worth it.

I’ve never used AirBnB, not sure if I want our honeymoon to be the first time. I will check it out, though, thanks!

Yea I wasn’t sure what that meant either! I’m guessing that’s code for “luxury.” That’s an interesting thought to rent a condo, I never would have thought of that! We plan to leave on Tuesday, to give ourselves a day to rest after the wedding, and hopefully cheaper. Thank you!

I’m thinking that’s the way to go, looking it up on our own. I was hoping to not have to, but seems like it’s the best way to find cost efficient options. Thanks for sharing, this is helpful!

I figured if we do an all inclusive we would go though Sandals. My sister went to a Sandals in Jamaica and loved it! Their resorts in the Bahamas seemed dreamy! I’m worried about hurricane season though, since we’re going on October.
