We are also going to Maui next October! The number one thing on our list that was recommended is the Lahaina Luau. It’s one of the oldest and most traditional luaus that includes dinner and an open bar, that makes it a little pricey but looks so worth it! There is also a company called Roberts Hawaii that a friend recommended that does all kinds of cool tours and rentals, we plan on doing a sunset into stargazing tour with dinner included with them!

We are staying at Aston Kaanapali just north of Lahaina, we booked everything through AAA. Our travel agent suggested to stay somewhere that had a lot of cool restaurants and shopping nearby because the hotel restaurants will get boring after a night or two and are more expensive than a little mom and pop restaurant on the beach!

You have to get up SUPER early, but the sunrise at the top of Haleakala was a bucket-list event and something I'm so glad we did. The little beach town of Paia is cool. We did a snuba trip off Lahaina and a helicopter tour. You'll have a blast! Smiley heart

We went to Maui & Oahu for our honeymoon last year, it was dreamy! In Maui, we stayed at the Royal Lahaina Resort. It was a great deal, $365 per night for an ocean view room, breakfast buffet & rental car. We upgraded to a jeep, so that was fun & festive. We went to the Feast a Lele luau in old lahaina, wandered around Whalers village (we could walk to it from our hotel), and drove around and snorkeled on several beaches. We just bought snorkel equipment at a local ABC store. We also had lunch at Mama's Fish House, it was SO GOOD and the view was amazing.

We are also looking into staying at the Royal Lahaina Resort. WE are booking with a travel agent so they can take care of booking our activities for us. Any suggestions for wardrobe? I have no idea what to expect. Snorkeling, Zip lining, and riding ATVs are on the top of our list.

I have heard great things about the helicopter tours. I'm so excited and anxious at the same time. Any suggestions on wardrobe and what to pack?

We felt very safe in the helicopter -- it was so much fun (if I'm remembering correctly, we took off near Paia). We went in June. I mostly wore shorts & sundresses all week -- very casual -- and a cute dress for the luau we went to, with a sweater or light sweatshirt in the evening. If you are planning to go to Haleakala for sunrise, keep in mind it is a high elevation and MUCH colder (especially before the sun is up) than anywhere else you might be on the island. We didn't bring heavy clothes just for that, but we layered up with multiple sweaters/sweatshirts/hats/etc. and wore jeans. (I think we may have also brought a spare blanket from our hotel -- Royal Lahaina -- to wrap up in while we were waiting, then just returned it when we got back.) Once the sun is up it warms up pretty quickly so dressing in layers gives you good flexibility, but it is REALLY cold before dawn at the top of the crater. It will be very crowded for sunrise, but about 90% of the people leave immediately and it's nice and quiet if you want to do a short easy hike or you can potentially do longer more challenging hikes if you're in to that. Read up on it and if you're going to stick around, make sure your prepared with water/snacks/etc. On the way down from Haleakala there is a great restaurant to stop for breakfast -- the Kula Lodge. (If you leave immediately with the "pack" it might be really busy, but if you hang around Haleakala for an hour or so, you might have the place to yourselves. I'm super jealous -- Maui was one of my all time favorite vacations. Have fun! Smiley heart

PS -- I just realized you're considering the Royal Lahaina -- we really enjoyed it. Beautiful grounds, easy walking distance to Whaler's Village for shopping & restaurants. There is a luau right next door, so if you don't want to go to the one in Lahaina, it's an option. We thought it was great, but nothing to compare it to. There used to be a small restaurant in a Condo/timeshare complex just past the luau grounds that was right out on the sand. Once we found it (2 minute walk from Royal Lahaina) we went to breakfast or lunch there a couple times during the week -- sometimes we just didn't want to drive anywhere! Smiley heart

We liked Royal Lahaina! We didn't use a travel agent, I prefer to plan things myself. The hotel wasn't super nice, but it was nice enough & a great deal with the rental car included. Their breakfast buffet was SUPER good. Our room was a partial ocean view but it was almost a full ocean view, which we liked. Their jacuzzi closed early, so that was annoying. Other than that, it was great. We didn't spend a ton of time at the hotel though, we did a lot on Maui. As far as packing goes, this is what I did:

ATV Tour in Oahu - Tennis shoes (ones I'm okay getting dirty) with mid-calf socks, a tank top & sports bra, and comfy jean shorts. I had a light rain coat in my drawstring backpack too.

Snorkeling - We bought snorkel stuff at a local ABC store when we got there so we didn't have to pack it on the plane. I just wore a bathing suit with a cover up.

Other than that, I had a few long flowy dresses for luaus and nice dinners, water shoes for hikes, crop tops & shorts for walking around, and cute silk pajama sets! I brought a light robe too that was nice for just hanging out in the room.
